Vose, the former from Liverpool and the lat- ter from London, the editors of the New- York Gazette have received London pa- pers to the 16th ult. It will be seen, among the extracts which we have given, that the British have no wish to go to war with this country—and that the ge- neral expression of the public prints, indicate an ardent disposition to preserve the harmony of the two governments. All apprehensions of an embargo on A- merican vessels had subsided—and the British government waiting with anxious solicitude the arrival of the dispatches sent out in the United Statesschoor.erRevenge, when the merits, of the pending misun- derstanding would be discrused. The British parliament was prorogued, by commission, on the 14th ult. Theking's speech on this occasion, does net even hint at American affairs. Insurance on American vessels from Liver- pool had fallen to 3 guineas. Lomjqn, Aug. 14. A G tlenbnrgh mail arrived this morn- ing. It has brought an official account of the military operations at StraLund to the '22d ult. The British troops did duty for tie first time, and occupied the posts within that fortress en the 21st. Lord Cathcart, on the same day, left Stralsiitid for Rugen, to review the British troops on that island, who with the Swedes in that place, are, in future to be commanded by gen, Baron Toll.. Mr. Sansom bad an interview yeslenLy with Mr. Canning, on the subject of the misunderstanding with America. The mi- nister informed him, that he had sent to the American envoys, to know whether they had received any further information : ad- ding, " that if they had, our government 'was ready to enter into an amicable adjust- ment of all differences." The answer was, " that they had received no instructi- ons'". The Russian officer, arrived from Milan on the 16th ult. brought orders from his sovereign for the cessation of the hostilities between the Turks and the Russians, in the Adriatic and Mediterranean. August 16. A mail from Gottenburg arrived, this morning, bringing news from Gottenburgh of the 7th. which slates, that on the 3d. admiral Gambier's fleet passed the Sound suluting Cronberg Castle as it passed and receiving a salute in return. A great num- ber of English ships of war and transpo — also have passed Gottenburgh on the cjp. and 6th.—Tncy were probably the 2d and 3d expeditions.
