You are acquainted with the fact that Dr. W. J. McGlothlin, President of the Southern Baptist Convention, Dr. W. P. King, Book Editor of the Southern Methodist Publishing House, Mr. Julian Harris, of the Atlanta Constitution, Dr. Howard W. Od\sn, of the University of North Carolina, Mr. Alex Spence, a lawyer, of Dallas, Texas, and other outstanding Southern men have cooperated in this study. The Southern Commission feels that you would be particularly interested in chapters 7, 8, and 12 of the report, dealing with peace-officers and the National Guard, what the courts have done about lynch-ings, and suggestions for the further reduction of lynchings.
