BROOKLYN DAILY EAGLE EDITORIAL DEPARTMENT December 16, 1931 Dear Governor: Enclosed please find a copy of the editorial page of today's Eagle containing your letter an d a ccompanying article. I assure you The Eagle had no intention of being unjust or remiss in this matter. The original editorial was more concerned with the possible unfortunate political effects of what had happened than with the happenings themselves. I must apologize, however, for the delay in removing the impression created by the phraseology used. We receive the Baltimore Sun as a matter of course, but our Washington correspondent, Mr. Suydam, telegraphed me calling attention to The Sun editorial before copies of the paper reached New York. I had the paper saved, along with clippings relating to the subject, expecting to write an editorial on Saturda?;-. Over-night all of these papers disappeared from my desk and I was still trying to replace them when I received your letter. Again Is t me assure you that The Eagle had no intention whatever of treating you unfairly, and is glad to do what it can to put this matter in the right light. Yours sincerely, Editor Hon. Albert G. Ritchie Governor of Maryland
