Gov. Albert C. Ritchie, Annapolis, Md. Hon. Sir:- "c sincerely trust you will abandon the idea of prosecuting the men ~~rho hung the murderer at Salisbury. Those people are most likely able to meet their peculiar problems. Under existing conditions there, the results art- -tat might be expected. We are persua.ded that you have too keen a knowledge of human trend to even attempt t o interfere T^ith or correct the actions of body of people ,,rro ^ere intent upon breaking vengeance upon a criminal of low type who had robbed them of a respectable, valuable citizen. The inert act was, no doub/t provoked on account of the dexay in meting justice to Lee. The prepondering number of unscrupulous lawyers prompted by selfish motives rather than being intent upon seeking justice, often delay trial, frequently on rediculous grounds, to such a degree that the people are generally disgusted with law and are really pardonable in ca.ses litce the one at Salisbury, in the matter in hand and effecting immediate disposition. The American citizenry as a whole are fore*bearing tc a marked degree. Bu// when forbearance ceases to be a virtue, they rise up emphatically and insist upon right prevailing. We are wondering now much longer they will endure existing national injustices, one of the outstanding which you so fearlessly, nobly md ably oppose. It is our sincere desire that this nation becomes sufficiently cognizant of your abilities to place you at its head j.n 1932. Sincerely yours, tZ^/s \r>
