CRITIC SIS COURT I Berger, Defense League Chief, Raps Probe of Mob Rule In Salisbury, Md. SALISBURY, M"d., March 22. Because of a telegram sent by Louis Berger, assailing the '' lynch jury'' which refused to make any indictments in the lynching of Matthew Williams, the judges of the First judicial circuit will confer to determine if they will lodge against Berger a charge of contempt of court. Informed of this move, Berger, secretary of the Baltimore branch of the International Labor Defense League, declared he would be glad to prove his charges in open court. Offense Is Taken Judge Joseph L. Bailey's charge to the Wicomico county grand jury, which was probing the lynching of the negro, suggested, that the jury investigate the "interference" and activities of an "outside organization." This meant the Labor Defense League, Berger contended in a telegram to Judge Bailey, which said: "The shore mob leaders will be well covered with you investigating our organization instead." No Blame Fixed Williams was hanged early in December after he had murdered Daniel J. Elliott. The lynching mob could not be identified by the grand jury, nor blame for the hanging centered with legal assurance, it reported.
