Journal of M. E. Bartgis, Captain. Includes collection of quotations and memorandum taken from his military book from 1812, muster rolls, courts martials, draft notices, returns of absentees, provision returns, lists of privates, including deserters.  Entries are as early as 1809 and as late as 1836.

During the summer of 2008, Rachel Bartgis, a Conservation and Library intern at the Maryland State Archives, prepared biographical sketches of Matthias Bartgis, the Frederick printer, and his son,
Matthias Echternacht Bartgis, the writer of this journal. Rachel also began the transcriptions of the jounal that follow.
