Plan:

  • This version of the 1718 Stoddert plan of Annapois is almost certainly a tracing, made by L. D. Gassaway, of an original Stoddert map once owned by the Carroll family. A lantern slide made from the tracing was captioned the "Oldest Map of Annapolis" by George Forbes, who used it in his lecture "Annapolis in Colonial and Revolutionary Days." Anthony Lindauer located the map in the Special Collections at the Maryland State Archives and suggested its use in this series.
