Figure 15. State House, c. 1698.
Figure 15. Conjectural drawing of the first Annapolis State House, c. 1698, by Elisabeth L.Ridout, to which have been added the Weather Vane and Pennant purchased for it by Governor Nicholson.
Drawing:
Documentary evidence indicates that the second Annapolis State House duplicated the first one, which burned in 1704. Dr. Alexander Hamilton's drawing of the second building in Figure 14 largely confirms Elisabeth Ridout's depiction of the first Annapolis State House, which was first printed in Morris L. Radoff, Buildings of the State of Maryland at Annapolis (Annapolis: Hall of Records Commission, 1954). The weather vane and pennant, gifts of Governor Nicholson, have been added electronically to Mrs. Ridout's drawing and the undocumented chimney removed. See N. 56.
The version for printing is FIG15.tif Resolution: 450 dpi.
