Miss Lucille Taylor had as guests on Sunday Miss Bernice Cairnes, of Catonsville; Miss Harrington, of Baltimore, and Mr. Maurice Cairnes, of Catonsville. Mrs. William B. Jarrett is confined to her room with general indisposition. Mrs. Mary K. Smith had the misfortune on Friday to fall on the ice and break her arm. A series of cottage prayer meetings are being held in this neighborhood prior to the Union Evangelistic services to begin on January 25. A surprise party was given Mr. Leroy Schilling at his home on Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lamb entertained at dinner on Saturday a number of friends. Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs. William Rampley, Rev. and Mrs. Hudson, Miss Mary Whiteford; Messrs William Deets and Franklin Deets. The. Mite Society of Asbury M. B. Church met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Clark on Saturday evening last. Miss Laura Cairnes and Helen Bach-rach motored from Baltimore on last Sunday and visited Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Cairnes. The Darlington Minstrels are coming to the K. of P. Hall on Wednesday, January 21, Mr. Raymond Ross Preston, of Stew-artstown and Miss Beulah Ayresi, of Cross) Roads, were quietly married on Saturday evening at 7 o'clock, by Rev. H. P. Baker. The Ladies' Aid Society of Gatch M. E. Church was entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Daughday on Tuesday evening. -------------0------------- ROCK CHAPEL. Miss Helen Houseman, of York, Pa., has returned home after spending the week-end with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis, S. Bowman. The following persons were entertained over the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph M. Waltemyer', Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bates and Miss Virgie Waltemyer. of York Pa.; Miss Bessie Plinies, of Buffalo, N. Y.; Miss, Frances Plinies, of Baltimore; Miss Clara Waltemyer, of Weiglestown, Pa., and Mr. Claude Waltemyer. of Turnpike, Pa. Mrs. L. S. Bowman has a red cactus that has 59 blooms. Rev. George W. Beatty, a retired minister, died on Tuesday, January 6, after being ill only three days with pneumonia. He is survived by his wife and two sons and three daughters. He was 80 years old. The funeral took place on Friday morning, at the New Market M. E. Church. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. J. F. Andreas conducted the funeral services. ELLICOTT CITY. Dr. Frank O. Miller, of this place, had his arm broken Saturday last for the second time in a year in trying to crank his automobile. IContinued on Page 3.) Gore, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. James Gore and Mr. D. Paul Gore were married Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, at All Sainttc' Episcopal Church, by Rev. Levin J. Sothoron, assisted by Rev. William T. Elmer, rector of the church. The church was decorated with Christmas greens. Miss Florence Hart played the wedding march and music preceding the ceremony. The bride was attired in a brown silver-tone suit, with hat and gloves to match. Her only attendant was her sister. Misg Inez E. Gore, who wore a brown charmeuse dress and carried pink roses. Mr. Ralph Miller, of Baltimore, was best man. The ushers were Mr. Joseph Cleary, of Baltimore; Mr. Bennett Barr, of Reisters/-town. He was forty-eight years old. His funeral took place on Wednesday. Interment was made in Emanuel Cemetery. Lauraville. The ice gorge on the Patapsco river broke the abutments of Putney Bridge. The bridge had recently been repaired at a cost of $5,000, from the effects Of a fire which almost destroyed it. This bridge belongs to the Guilford and Watersville Granite Company, and is used by the quarry for shipping stone, consequently the men are out of work. Owing to the cold weather, most of the farmers have filled their ice houses. The ice is thick and of good quality.
