Mr. Russell Miller was the guest of Mr. Gilbert Fowble on Sunday last. Misfc Mary Carr is suffering with a sore throat. Mr. Jacob Hale had the misfortune of falling from a sled while coasting Saturday night and inflicting an ugly 'wound on his face from his forehead to his chin. He was attended by his family physician. Mrs. William C. Miller spent Sunday with her son, George, and his family. Misjfe Thelma Fowble is ill at this writing, suffering with stomach trouble. Miss Rachel Miller has been indisposed for over a week with a cold. Miss Mamie Wilhelm, of Foreston, is the guest of her aunt, Mrs. George Lippy. Mr. and Mrs. William C. Miller were in Hampsytead one day last week. Messrs. Edmund and William Carr spent the week-end with their parents here. -------------o------------- FREELAND. Real estate is booming again after a short interval of inactivity. Mr. Jacob Fuller has bought the property of Mr. Adam Taylor, near Rayville. Mr. .1. P. Keeny has purchased the Grange Hall, in Middletown, from the heirs of the late Mrs. Sherman. Mrs. Sampsjon, mother of Mr. Murray Sampson, of near this village, died on last Saturday morning, aged eighty years. Her funeral took place on Wednesday. Mr. Hoffman, a highly respected citizen of our community, is quite ill under the care of Dr. Yeagle, of New Freedom, Pa. Mr. J. H. Keeny, having sold his grist mill and farm, will move to the Keystone State shortly. ----------o---------- BECKLEVSVILLE. There will be preaching here on Sunday at 2.30 P. M.; Sunday school at 1.30 P. M. Mr. George Peregoy, of Mt. Carmel, was( the guest of his aunt, Mrs. L. V. Peregoy, on Monday. Mr. Lawrence Kidd spent Saturday witii his brother, Mr. Roy Kidd, of and. Mr. Thomas McCormick, who has been confined to his home for several weeks, suffering with a sprained back, has recovered and gone to work again. The degree staff of Garden Rebekah Lodge No. 33, conferred the E.ebekah degree on a claas of candidates for Highland Rebekah Lodge on Wednesday evening, in Delta Hall, Highland avenue. Many accidents have occurred here during the past week among the youngsters coasting on the hills and roadsides. Several children are suffering with broken arms and legs, and some with bad bruises-. On Sunday next Rev. H. C. Lambdin will preach at Overlea M. E. Church at 11 A. M. and at 8 P. M. -----:--------O------------- RAYVILLE. Mrs. P; S. Cross, is ill at her home in this village. Owing to the revival services which are being held at Hoshall's Memorial U. B. Church by the pastor, Rev. J. H. Lehman, there will be preaching services at Pine Grove U. B. Church this; Sunday afternoon. Some of our folks are now using their sleighs for traveling over the slippery roads. -------------O------------- MARYLAND LINE. Mrs. Luke Sampson, aged 80 years, of near Maryland Line, died Saturday last at the home of her son, Murray Sampson. Besides her son she is survived by several grandchildren. Her husband died five years ago. -------------O------------- GARDENVILLE. Mrs. Eliza Herrman, aged 53 years, wife of Charles Herrman, former fire marshal of Baltimore county, died at her home Tuesday last. Her death was caused by heart failure. Beslide her husband she is survived by one son, (Henry E. Herrman). Mrs. Herrman was the daughter of the late Christian Milchland, and had been married for 20 years. ----------o---------- SPEEDTOWN. A deflective flue caused a fire Monday afternoon at the home of Charles Sauirrell, colored, Shipley avenue, this village. The Catonsville Fire Engine Company was called and extinguished the flames before serious loss resulted. -------------o------------- LANSDOWNE. brother, Messrs. W. H. Taylor, Clark McDonald and Dr. Norman Briggsi are all confined to the house with sickness. We were very sorry to learn of the sudden death of our old frie*nd, Mr. J. W. Duff, an old resident of this community, but who has been residing in York, Pa., for some time. Mrs. W. T. Hauptman renovated her needle cushion and found 48 needles in it. The funeral of Alexander Keys, an aged resident of this place, who died on Wednesday morning, at the home of his daughter, Mrsv Alice Eaton, after a sickness of several months from a complication of diseases was held Wednesday. After brief services at the house at 10 o'clock the funeral party proceeded to the M. E. Church at Eklo, where concluding services took place. Rev. Lewis, of Baltimore, officiated. Susan Cox fell on the ice last Week and fractured her shoulder. Walter Howard Shaw Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, formed last week at Lnnjdowne, held its first meeting on Monday. Officers of the new post are: Commander, Thomas E. Barton, Jr.; adjutant, George P. Reinhardt; senior vice-commander, George P. Weber; junior vice-commander. William J. Weber, Jr.; and chaplain, Frank E. Peterson. -------------0------------- ROCK CHVPEt. Judge Frank I. Duncan, of this place, received word this week of the serious illness of his grandson. William B. Cornell, Jr., son of Doctor and Mrs.. William B. Cornell, of Albany, N. Y. The child, accompanied by his mother and brother, was on a visit to the home of Judge Duncan during the Christmas holidays and was complaining of feeling ill just before he left. -------------O------------- RASPEBURG. i The Epworth League of Overlea M. E. Church elected officers for the ensuing year last Thursday, after which they had a social evening in the church pa.rlois. Music and games were indulged in. Refreshments were served. Mr, Oourtland Dietrich, of Kenwood avenue, who had a stubborn case of developed pneumonia last week Mrs. C. L. V. Brown, Mrs. Harry Waltemyer, Miss Gladys Krout and Miss Minnie Meekins is enjoying a three weeks' stay with relativesi in Washington, D. C. Mr. Fred Stirn has started his homeward journey, after spending about two months in sunny California. Mrs. William Reinhold is able to be out again after having been ill with bronchitis. No services were held at Emmarta' Church last Sunday on account of the ice and sleet which made traffic almost impossible. Relatives and friends filled the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sauter to its fullest capacity on last Wednesday evening, when their daughter, Miss Mamie Sauter and Mr. William Stirn were married by the Rev. Smith, of the United Evangelical Church. The bride wore white georgette and carried a shower bouquet of white roses. Little Miss Margaret Sauter, a niece of the bride, was flower girl. A reception was given right after the ceremony. The bride and groom were well remembered with presents which consisted of cut glass, silver, hand painted dia/hes. linen and aluminum. Mr. and Mrs. Stirn have purchased a home on the Frederick Pike, in Howard county. ----------o---------- OWI1VGS MILLS, Nearly every one up here has the grippe, or a very bad cold. Joseph Blair, of Holbrook. has twelve members of the household in bed at one time. Garfield Herara was confined to hisj bed for several day. D. H. Kelley, our enterprising merchant, who has been confined to his 'room for a week, is now up and attending to business. The icce was two inches thick on the concrete portion of the Liberty road, There was plenty of good skating, with many out enjoying it. V. H. O'Dell is confined to his home with the rheumatism. Dr. Martin is kept on the go continuously, and is hoping for an im-ment in the weather.
