February 7, 1920—Page 6 THE JEFFERSONIAN, TOWSON, MARYLAND. $7,000 FOR 300 BIRDS IS EXPENSIVE FOR BALTIMORE COUNTY. (Continued from Page 1, Col. 7.) game warden from Harford county was selected to preside. If anyone has ever seen him in Baltimore county, it surely must have been with the aid of a flash light and a microscope, for during the entire hunting season, he was never even as much as heard from, notwithstanding the fact that the game laws were violated right and left, and in the most open and flagrant manner, and The Jeffersonian cannot recall a single instance of prosecution for violation of the law, by any one connected with the State Game Warden's office. English pheasants which were protected by a local law of Baltimore county for two years, were killed and exposed openly to view in the public places, and no attempt was made to prosecute the unscrupulous hunters. The game bag limit was utterly disregarded, and gunning on Sundays and before open seasons, likewise afterward was notorious, yet apparently no effort has been made to enforce the law. There is one thing that the State Game Warden should be complimented upon, and that is his promptness in confiscating from the Clerk of the Court the money collected from the issuing of gunning licenses. Oh, No! he did not neglect that part of his duty, for as we above stated, Baltimore county turned over to him more than $7,000 and all that came back was 300 partridges, some dead at that. There was seven thousand again this year, and the county may consider itself lucky if It gets a coop without any birds. It is high time that the members in the General Assembly, from Baltimore county, "sit up and take notice," if they desire to follow the wishes of the people, and make a strenuous effort to repeal the present law and re-enact Baltimore county's old local law, under which far better results were obtained. Baltimore county is not content to help pay State Game Warden LeCompte's expenses, touring the "Western Hemisphere in the quest of Game. INTRODUCES BILL, (Continued from Page 1, Col. 1.) county shall make such expenditures of the public funds in aid of the purposes of the Baltimore County Trades Commission provided for in the preceding paragraphs of this bill as may in their judgment be proper. It is believed that all public-spirited citizens in Baltimore county will approve this measure. If the right sort of a Commission is appointed by the County Commissioners—as we have no doubt they will do—great good can be accomplished. Baltimore city has such, a Commission, and has had for many years, and the progress it has made in upbuilding the industries of the city is the best argument we can use toward showing that a Trade Commission, such as is contemplated under the Mcintosh bill, would be a good thing for Baltimore county. A municipality, as well _a,s a private corporation or individual, must advertise in order to reach its highest development. "It pays to advertise." Baltimore county has unusual advantages to offer for the establishment of manufacturing enterprises within its borders, particularly along its long water front adjacent to the city, and these advantages should be advertised far and wide. Prom the standpoint of low taxes, and a simple, efficient commission form of government, Baltimore county has ever better advantages to offer out-of-State capitalists and manufacturers, who are looking for factory sites, than Baltimore city. With these superior advantages to offer, we are in a position to successfully compete with the city in seeking industrial enterprises, and we should lose no time in taking advantage of our opportunities. A wave of industrial progress and prosperity is sweeping over the country, an dif a live-wire, wide-awake Commission is appointed by the County Commissioners to get In touch with seekers after factory sites, and point out the county's unexcelled advantages', the material welfare of the county can be wonderfully advanced. The project of having a Trade Commission in the county has often been the subject of favorable discussion, and now that Senator Mcintosh has taken the initiative by introducing a bill to clothe the County Commissioners with proper authority to act, we hope that the Bill will soon become a law and that the Baltimore County Trade Commission will soon become a fact.
