Wilson, who will erect a residence upon the lot. which fronts on the Shawsville road. Thomas C. Hunter has sold to Millard Standiford his house and lot on • the Shawsville road. Mr. David N. Thomas', who submitted to an operation at a Baltimore Hospital, expects to return home this week. Mr. William Leckliter is quite ill suffering from an attack of hiccoughs which have lasted for five days. Mr. and \Mrs. Samuel J. Jones entertained the * White Hall Aid Society on Thursday night. A subscription was held at the K. of P. Hall at Shawsville on Friday night. The committee in charge consisted of Walter Slade and Lee Wiley. Miss Helen Hunter, of Baltimore, was a week-end guest of her cousin, Miss Mildred Hoshall. Mr. John P. Mays has purchased a. new automobile. Miss Irene McDonald, of Baltimore, spent the week-end with her lister, Mrs. Ella Baldwin. The ladies of Wiseburg M. E. Church will hold a strawberry festival tonight (Saturday). Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Bernoudy and their daughter, Miss Mazie, attended the commencement exercises of Gouch-er College. The teachers and pupils of the White Hall public school held a lawn fete on the grounds of the school on Friday night. Miss Fe'ettey is the principal of the school. The J. E. Baker Company, operator of the Blue Mount Stone Quarry, has> completed connection with the N. C. R. R. for its siding, and the bridge over the Gunpowder river has been finished. Tipton spent the past week with relatives in Baltimore. Mrs. D. Holmes Wood returned home from the Maryland General Hospital last Friday. She is now suffering with a severe carbuncle. Mr. Harry A. Clark spent Sunday visting relatives and friends in Luth-erville and Baltimore. It is rumored that we will soon hear the ringing of wedding bells. We hear many inquiries as to the best means, of eradicating the yellow weed which has1; become such a pest especially in land adjacent to streams. The only possible means we have found is to pull it up, but it requires perserverance in keeping it pulled each successive season. The mild weather of the past week has, had a beneficial effect on corn, potatoes and garden vegetables, while wheat is looking somewhat better.
