Carswell, Health Officer of the Ninth district, as deputy registrar of the same district. —Miss Mildred Schuler, clerk in the Towson National Bank, is spending her vacation with her sister, Mrs. Wm. Treadwell, at Norfolk, Va. ¦—Miss Catherine O'Hara is spending-some time with Miss Dorothy Parks at Monkton. Miss Anna Prankenfleld is. also a guest at the Sparks' home. —Mr. Elmer J. Cook, Judge Prank I. Duncan, Mr. W. Gill Smith and Clerk of the Court Wm. P. Cole left Thursday for a business trip to Cleveland, Ohio. —The interior of the Court Drug Store here is being remodeled and when completed will add much to the general appearance of the establishment. —Tonng "Bill" Fuller fs -wearing the "'smile that won't ' come off," and there's a reason for it. On Monday the stork visited hig home aud left an 8-pound baby boy. —Towson has a new squire. On Tuesday Mr. Wm. P. Butler was ap-piinted by Governor Ritchie to fill the vacancy made by the death of the late John T. Hopkins. —Mr, J. H. Suter, St., of Roland Park, has purchased from Dr. Louis Hergenrather a lot at Aigburth Park and will erect a cottage upon same in t.he near future. —Dr. Cole, assiciated with the Ani-manl Husbandry Branch, U. S. Dept. of Agriculture, spent a few days in Towson this week on business. He was a guest at the Hotel Towson. —Mrss. B. P. Ports, wife of one of the proprietors of the York Road Garage here, is a patient at a city hospital, where she underwent an operation on Thursday for appendicitis. —The annual Sunday School picnic of the Towsfon M. P. Church, of which Rev. S. P. Cassen is pastor, will be held on Wednesday next at Clifton Park. The trip will be made by automobiles. —Miss Lydia May Watkins is/ substituting at the Towson National Bank while some of the employees are on their vacations and others are carefully scrutinizing the-"Summer Board" columns. —Mr. Milton J. Dance, who conducted an auctioneering business here prior to the war, and who volusteered his servicesl has returned to the county seat and will again open an office in the Piper Building. —The congregating of negroesi on the sidewalks of the county seat, especially on Saturday evenings, is beginning to become evident again. Why the patrolmen^ allow it is too much of a problem for us to make out. —Mr. Thomas W. Meads, assistant cashier at the Second National Bank here, is spending his vacation on an auto trip through Southern Maryland. He is accompanied by his wife, his son, Mr. T. Wilbur Meads and daughter-in-law. —"The Liife That Lifts" will be the subject for the sermon at 11 o'clock service at Calvary Baptist Church here tomorrow (Sunday) after which the ordinance of baptism will be administered by the pastor, Rev. J. David Clark. —The Sunday School of the Towson M. E. Church wended its way to Druid Hill Park in two special cars on Tuesday las|t for the annual picnic. "Uncle" Jimmy Dunphy, superintendent, with his white shoes and trousers, was in his glory. —Sheriff Samuel C. Mahle and Der>-jUty Sheriff W. George Marley.were in Easton yesterday (Friday) where they witnessed the execution of Isaiah Fountain, the negro of Talbot county, who was tried at Towson and found guilty of a serious offense. —-Towson's "grand old man" Dr. Jas. H. Jarrett, -who was recently operated upon, was seen on the streets of the town caking his little walk one dav this week. Notwithstanding his 89 y^ars, Dr. Jarrett seems to have recovered fully from the operation. —The annual meeting of the Towson Womens' Christian Temperance Union will be held in the Towson M. P. Church on Thursday, July 29th, at 2.30 o'clock, at which time the business ses sion will be conducted At 6.30 the annual reunion of the members; with their husbands will take place. —There was a time when the telephone was a convenience—now its a darned nuisance, especially when one trys to get a city number and is given the wrong one, or is told the line is busy, for half a dav. People who endeavor to get county calls from the city get the number 1 time out of 10. —"Tibby" Wheeler, voungest son of Mr. and, Mrs. George F. Wheeler, may some day be the star of one of the big league baseball teams, for "Tibby"' is now sfome twirler. Services were conducted at the home by Rev. S. F. Cassen, pastor of Towson M. P. Church. The burial was in charge of the Towson Lodge of Odd Fellows. Interment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery here. —On Tuesday last Peter E. Foote, a farmer of Cockeysville, -was sentenced to 5 years in the Maryland Penitentiary by Judge Frank I. Duncan, having been found gfcilty on July 2d by. a jury of having deceived a stolen automobile from a negro auto-jack. His» counsel, C. Gus G.rasin, asked that a new trial be granted, but the motipn was overruled and sentence passed. —On Monday evening at 7.30 o'clock an important meeting will be held by the Towson Post, No. 22, American Legion, in the Court House, at which time delegates to the next State convention, to be held in Cumberland on September 6 and 7 will be elected. A minstrel show has been organied and a report from the committee in charge of this is expected.. An outing by the Post members for three or four days on same shore along the water front in Baltimore county has been arranged i\ r, the details of which will be told at the meeting. —'The shimmer sales conference of the Black &. Decker Mfg. Co. here, convened on Monday last and adjourned on Thursday. The various branch managers who attended were G-. R-Lundane, New York city; Walter Watson, Buffalo; D. G. Cay wood, Boston; R. Tuesday evening the branch managers and department heads were served dinner on the lawn of the Black & Decker community house. —Deputy Game Warden Harry Dawes had the misfortune to fracture his right arm at the wrist while cranking his "flivver." Mr. Dawes was in Towson on Tuesday enroute from the game propaganda farm at Gwynnbrook to Loch Raven with 100 young pheasants, which he turned loose on the city property, this vast area being now used for breeding purposes.
