Bahn, of Harrisburg, composer-director, took the part of Hezekiah, a country store keeper (of a hundred years ago). Some of the most humorous characters' were: Hezekiah's wife, Miss Lida Eck; Pap, a veteran of 80 years, Mr. A. D. Mumma; Constable, Mr. James Burton; Mr. and Mrs. Burdock, Mrs, B. P. Mun-nikhuysen and Mr .Theo. Pormwalt. Every one acquitted themselves* well and although some of the audience were made the object of the jokes everyone took it good naturedly and were ready to laugh at the other fellow. Fifty-two dollars was cleared and, if nothing happens Prof. Bahn will give another play some time during the winter. Fork M. E. Mite Society will hold a meeting this evening at the home of Mrs. Bernard Holland. Every member is requested to be present, as important business is to be transacted. Fork schools opened with three teachers, Miss Mann as principal, and Misses Graw and Hanna as assistants. Armacost and her two sons, Charles and Vernon, spent a week visiting relatives! in Manchester. Miss Mildred Widdle, of this place, spent her vacation with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Beuport of Baltimore. She has now returned home and is attending Garrison school. The WidJe Awake Athletic Club, suspended meetings during vacation, has now started up again and is ready for business. St. Thomas' Sunday School has re- i opened after being closed since the la&'it of June. Most boys think that what Sherman said about war would pertain to school days as well. Mr. and Mrs. N. Watkins have moved j\ by, the latter s mother. Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Appleton have announced the birth of a daughter at the Church Home and Infirmary. Mr. Appleton, who has for some time been superintendent of the J. E. Baker quarries, at White Hall, has resigned and has accepted a similar position at Hanover, Pa. „ , The Wiseburg M. E. Sunday School will be held next Saturday afternoon and evening, September 25. The marriage of Miss Margaret E. Wiley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Wiley, and Mr. Howard Hutchins Wilev, son of Mr. and Mrsi. Richard H. Wiley, will take place next Thursday evening, September 23, at 6 o'clock in the White Hall Presbyterian Church. PHOENIX. GARRISON. Mr. and Mrs. John Warfel and two daughters, of Govan* motored to Pennsylvania last week to visit Mr. Warfel's sister, Mrs. John Pearl, of Kenneth Square, Chester county. They returned on Monday evening. A very pleasant evening- was spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs, John Warfel, Cording avenue, Govans, on August 30, it being the fifteenth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. J. Warfel. Mr. Zokel's orchestra furnished the music. Church was a big success. Mrs. Laura Thompson, of Wiseburg, is slowly improving after being hurt by an automobile owned and driven by Mr. Edjgar Miller last Saturday night. Miais Florence Bull is sending the week-end in Baltimore Misses Grace and Mildred, Miller, of New Freedom, visited at the home of Mr. S. M. Armacost last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Armacost spent last Sunday with the former's mother, of Trenton, who was seriously ill. Miss Rama Carr, of Baltimore, was a week-end visitor here last week. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ensor and family, of Beckleysville, sent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. George Roach. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hannigan visited relatives here on last Sunday. Miss Jora Robinson has returned home after a visftt to Miss Grace Ayres. Miss Bessie Trout, of Baltimore, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Trout, on last Sunday. A party was given Mr. Joseph Zimmerman last Saturday evening by his parents in honor of his twenty-first birthday. . Mr. Edward; Hoover, son of Mr. and Mrs Jerome Hoover, was married last Saturday evening to Mrs. White, of Baltimore. Misses Katherine and Amelia Krout have entered the State Normal School. The school here opened on Monday with a very good attendance. Miss Royston and Miss Ensor are the teachers again for the year. Mr. H. C. Zulauf recently returned from a trip to Norfolk, Va. MrsJ. Rowe went .on a trip by boat to Chester and Wilmington on Sunday last The boat "City of Philadelphia," crashed into the wharf at Chester, Pa., at 2.40 P. M., but fortunately no damage was done. Mrs. Milton Albright is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Laura Boggs. Mr. John Price, whose leg was broken last spring at cherry time, is now able to be out on a crutch.
