OOPPPQOPOODQOO pO SILAS M. TALBOTT SEEKS DIVORCE. Silas M. Talbott filed suit in the Circuit Court at Towson for an absolute divorce from Mrs. Delia Talbott on the ground of abandonment. The bill states that the parties were married September 4, 1920, ad separated the followig November. The plaintiff resides at White Hall and the defendant at Salisbury. COURT OF APPEALS JUDGES MEET. Judge T. Scott Offutt, of Towson, with other judges of the Court of Appeals, assembled at Annapolis this week for consultation in cases argued during the April term and to file opinions thereon. EUTAW STREET BALTIMORE, MARYLAND A combination horse and pony show, bazaar, athletic meet, beauty contest and dance will be given for the benefit of the Milk and Ice Fund at Reis Villa, on the Reisterstown road, August 16, Mrs. L. E. Leitch, of the committee in charge, announced this week. The horse and pony show will be the feature of the afternoon. An entry list for events includes ladies' saddle class, ladies' jumping class, army officers' jumping class, green hunters, hunt teams, polo ponies, ponies in saddle and harness classes and pony jumping class for children. In connection with the horse and pony show races will be held for the different classes, including a pony race for children under 12 years old riding their own mounts. Prizes for the different classes will be awarded. The feature of the evening will be the beauty contest for the girls under the age of 16. The winners of the contest will be announced at the dance which will terminate festivities. Arrangements for the affair are being made by a committee of four, consisting of Mrs. Mary De Maris, Mrs. Charles L. Feeney, Mrs. Theodore Forbes and Mrs. Leitch. TELEPHONE EMPLOYEES ON OUTING. The annual outing of the employees of the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company took place at Bay Shore Park recently. PRICE OF GASOLINE CUT ONE CENT. POLICE GUARD DRY AGENT IN HOLBROOK WOMAN IMPROVING RAID ON ARBUTUS PLEASURE CLUB. Police were summoned when a crowd menaced a group of prohibition agents led by James L. Asher, Jr., during a raid on the Arbutus Pleasure Club, Washington Boulevard. Two five-ton truck loads of alleged home brew were seized. No arrests were made, but the agents said officers of the club would be summoned to appear before J. Frank Supplee, United States Commissioner. -----------o----------- DIRECTOR JANNEY VISITS HOUSE OR CORRECTION. Stuart S. Janney, State Welfare Director, and a resident of the Green Spring Valley, accompaanied by Warden Claude B. Sweezey and Roert D. Case, secretary of the Welfare Board, visited the House of Correction this week. Mr. Janney went over the institution thoroughly. The inspection, he said, was for the purpose of familiarizing himself with the institution, over which he assumed general supervision last Wednesday. -----------o----------- BOY LOCKED TWO DAYS IN BOX CAR; NEAR STARVATION. The Standard Oil Company of New Jersey recently announced a reduction of 1 cent in the price of gasoline in Maryland, District of Columbia, West Virginia, North Carolina and New Jersey, and a half cent in Virginia and South Carolina. Phone Towson 473 Edward Shaafer, fourteen, 631 Robert street, Baltimore city, was taken from a freight car at Harris-burg almost dead from hunger and thirst. Shafer for two days had been locked in the car. The boy ran away from home and climbed into the box car on a siding of the Pennsylvania railroad. An unsuspecting employee of the company locked the door. The car was shifted from siding to siding in the Bay View yards and later sent to Harrisburg. The boy has been committed to the Maryland School for Boys at Loch Raven for violation of a parole. -----------o----------- DROWNS WHEN HE PALLS FROM LAUNCH OFF COUNTY WATER FRONT. Harry Morgan, 30 years old, was drowned off the Baltimore county water front when he fell from a launch on which he was riding. Yhili Wagner, owner of the launch, told police he rushed to the side of the boat when he heard a cry, but was in time only to see Morgan disappear. After an unsuccessful attempt to rescue Morgan, Wagner brought the boat to shore and notified the police. Patrolmen recovered the body near the shore. Morgan lived in the 600 block West Fayette street, Baltimore city. ------------o----------- JUSTICE MACHIN "TAXES" AUTOIST $100 AND COSTS. The automobile of Wm. L. Smith-son, of Fawn Grove, Pa., collided on Sunday night with the automobile of Gordon Gill, of Monkton, on the York Road near Sparks, seriously injuring the latter. He sustained a fracture of the skull and after receiving medical attention was taken to his home. G. H. Abbott, who accompanied Mr. Gill, escaped injury. Smithson was arrested by C. E. Duckworth, of the Maryland State Police, and was fined $100 and costs by Justice L. O. Machin of Cockeysville, on the charge of operating an automobile under the influence of liquor.. The automobile of Mr. Gill was demolished. ------------o----------- A CORRECTION. It was incorrectly stated in the last issue of The Jeffersonian that M. C. Gentry would occupy the corner store and the one next, being erected by Mrs. Urban on York road, at Pennsylvania avenue. As yet, none of the stores have been leased. -----------o----------- AFFAIR AT KINGSVILLE AUG. 8TH AND 9TH. On Friday and Saturday, August 8th and 9th, the annual fair and festival of St. John's Church, Kings-ville, will be held. Rev. Theodore S. Will, the rector, and members of his congregataion are making elaborate preparations for the event. -----------o----------- LANSDOWN COUPLE REMEMBERED ON 56TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. Mr. and Mrs. George A. Davis, of Lansdowne, were given a surprise party recently at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Mortimer Mersen, in honor of their 56th wedding anniversary. The condition of Mrs. Joseph Blair, of Holbrook, who has been quite ill, is reported as improving. -----------o----------- MODERN ARK SAILS. With a private menagerie of monkeys, cats, dogs and parrots intact, due mainly to the efforts of Chief Steward George Faubles, the steamship Clan Ranald pulled up anchor from off the Baltimore county water front for her return trip to Portuguese East African ports. At least once, while the Clan Ranald was bound to Baltimore from Biera, Faubles risked his life to save one of his pets. While the big frighter was in Baltimore he passed most of his time chasing the delin-uent menagerie over the docks. Before the Clan Ranald had loaded her cargo in Biera only two cats and a dog were to be found aboard her. The chief steward then added Jocko and Phoebe, small apes, and two parrots. Faubles didn't hesitate. He plunged over the side and swam after the distressed Jocko. In those waters were sharks, but Faubles never gave them a thought. He saved Jocko. Now the whole menagerie is one happy family. Jocko and Tom are firm friends and are freuently to be seen wrestling around the deck.
