1FFA1K TO BE HELD ON LAWN OF NEW RECTORY AT KINGSVILLE. The annual fair and supper given by the Guild of St. John's Church, Kingsville, will be held on the new rectory lawn on Friday and Saturday evenings, August 8 and 9. The ladies of St. John's are famous for their suppers, and this year will be no eception to the rule, as a bountiful menue of chicken and other good things dear to the rural palate, will be provided for all comers between the hours of 6 and 8.30 P. M. each evening. RUXTON GIRL AMONG THOSE RESCUED FROM OCEAN LINER. Miss Lois Carswell, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. S. Carswell, of Ru-ton. was among those rescued from the Bergensfjord steamship which sailed from Cristiana, Norway, July 26, 1924. There was an explosion in the engine room and the ship caught afire and had to be beached and 450 passengers taken off. Miss Carswell has been visiting Norway and Sweden since early spring. Shielding her baby, which she hold in her arms, Mrs. C. B. Fitzpatrick, was severely bruised in an automobile collision on the Old Frederick read near Elsinor avenue. Thei baby was unhurt. Mrs. Fitzpatrick was in an automobile driven by her husband when it collided with a car operated by Nathaniel Chance, (colored). MRS. IDA R, LYTLE UNDERGOES OPERATION. CORBETT FOLKS IN VIRGINIA. Mrs. Ida R. Lytle, wife of Mr. D. Owen Lytle, of White Hall, who two years ago received a slight injury under the arm and which gave herj no trouble until recently, last week consulted a specialist in Baltimore, who advised an immediate operation to which she submitted last Saturday at the Maryland University Hospital. While the operation was a serious one she is doing as well as can be expected. A QUESTION FOR POULTRYMEN. Is a hen 18 months old susceptible to gaps? The family of Mrs. Elizabeth Burns, of White Hall, are divided upon this question 4 to 1. Mrs. Clara Baumgartner, a daughter, noticing one of her fine white leghorn hens suffering as though she had the gaps, inserted an instrument in the hen's windpipe and extracted a large gap worm. The her1, immediately expired and Mrs. Burns made a post-mortem and found nothing but a mass of blood in the windpipe. Mrs. Baumgartner stands out for gaps and the other four members of the family insist her diagnosis is wrong. Poultry keepers are interested in having a correct answer to the question. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. A. Phelph, of Corbett, are in Virginia visiting relatives, they having taken the trip by auto. ----------o---------- FORK BAND ALL 'DIKED OUT." Members of the Fork Cornet Band have provided themselves with new uniforms. Mr. J. Lester Smith is manager of the organization. ----------o---------- MARRIED AT RAYVILLE PARSONAGE. Miss Florence Wagner, of Shrewsbury, Pa., and Mr. Russell W. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Smith, of Middletown, were married at the U. B. Parsonage, Rayville; Rev. H. L. Fehl performing the ceremony. EVANGELISTIC MEETING AUGUST 18. On August 18 an evangelistic meeting will be held in the woods near Waugh M. E. Church. Towson Lodge of Odd Fellows will revive the old-time tournament at the county seat on Saturday, August 23, when they will hold a tournament and dance on the Towson High School grounds, the tournament starting at 2.15 o'clock in the afternoon and the dance at 8 o'clock in the evening in the assembly room of the school building. Millard F. Tydings, Congressman from this District and Democratic candidate for re-election, will deliver the charge to the knights. There will be eight money prizes and four crowns to be distributed among the knights and it is felt that this feature will insure a large number of riders for the contest.
