KEENE AMENDMENT TO CONSTITUTION TO BE VOTED ON IN NOVEMBER, A MISCHIEVIOUS ONE. (Continued from Page 1) fering with parents in the use and training of their children is a return to barbarism. Children would not be allowed to work on the farm and this would be a great loss to farmers. In the case of a mother who is left a widow in need, and having several hardy boys, say from ten to ft —' eighteen years old, would it be right, just or wise to deprive her of the aid of these boys in earning their own living or to meddle with her in the management of her affairs? Any tendency of this kind would be tyranny. Where would Congress get the wisdom to interfere with such details? "With Congress as it is now, there can be but little wisdom in interfering with family management. Nothing could be more perilous to the rising generation than for them to feel that the State protected them from work and that idleness was theii* right. One of the greatest blessings of this nation, and one of the sources of its greatest power, has been the necessity of its youth learning to work at an early period in life. It was necessity which developed invention, achievement and sympathetic fellowship. Our best men have been the sons of toil, and the necessity for toil. When the whole matter of training youth in labor is put in the coarse hands of Congress, the result can only be evil. Dog madness, milk ailment and children's illness are not the only disaffections attributed to the dog days. Such things as the writing of lovelorn verses have been explained by the ancient tradition. With so many weighty problems awaiting solution, the inhabitants of Baltimore county are anxious to know at what time this year they will have the opportunity to "blame" it on the dog days. t BAD LUCK OF WALKING UNDER LADDERS HAS NO HORROR FOR TOWSON FOLKS. .O ¦WWWW • • :: :: «• ?? York Road Affords Observation Of Importance Attached To Old Superstition As Seen From Workmen's Viewpoint. i (Continued from Page 1) Some men carefuflly ana with apparent carelessness step into the) street to eliminate in a nonchalent manner the embarrassment of having to decide whether to harken to the voice of superstition or to invite the consequences of not heeding it. One class passes under ladders with never a glance or consideration of their location and this is small boys, who, intent upon perplexing problems of their closely hemmed universe cannot be worried with superstition, pro or con. COUNTY WEATHER PROPHET SAYS THERE WILL BE FEW DOG DAYS. Have Haad Little Weather So Far That Produces Dreaded Humid Days—Dog Madness Used To Be Frequent At This Season. (Continued from Page 1) one should know when to lock up the family dog. As it is, the canine remains the object of mingled feelings of love, pity and suspicious fear. And then grandma is worried about Thomas, Jr., and the swimming hole, for she knows the water gives little boys hives and all sorts of other complaints during dog days. She is certain that Thomas, Sr., was ill when he was a child and had to be treated for three weeks. The farmer's wife declares she will know when dog days are here without any help of any almanac. No matter how fine the cream is, the butter is just too contrary to form, and when it does come it ain't what it ought to be. Ice helps butter making a great deal, but even so butter making is not easy for the person who churns by hand in dog days. The dog day witch also frowns over the milk pail. Milk still sours between morning and evening milk-ings, and farmers say despite the aid of modern refrigerating methods. We wish to announce the appointment of YORK ROAD GARAGE Towson, Md.
