In the issue of March 13, 1863, there is an account of the death of Benjamin Morgan, son of Geo. Morgan, of Dulany's Valley. He died in a hospital adjacent to Vicksburg. On March 30, 1863, a speech by Hon. Edwin H. Webster in the House of Representatives was published in full. The following was a price list in Richmond: Beef, $1.25 per lb.; pork, $2.00 per lb.; sofft wool hats, $25 to $30; ordinary boots, $60; coffee and tea, none to be had except at fabulous prices. The following grand jury report is interesting in view of the present beautiful appearance of the Court House Square: Grand Jury Room, Towsontown, March 21, 1863. "To the Hon. John H. Price, Judge of the Circuit Court for Baltimore County:—The grand jury of Baltimore county respectfully beg leave to report that in persuance of their duty, they have (J visited the county jail and the sheriff's management of the same, through the aid of his officers, worthy of commendation. It is well kept and in good' condition, and the health and comfort of the prisoners cared for so far as is cinsistent with a proper regard for the object of the. law. "The grand jury further desire, through your Honor, to call the attention of the county authorities to the discreditable condition of the Court House lot, its lank and meagre appearance, and its execrable mud walks, which make an approach to the Temple of Justice a formidable undertaking. The liberal expenditure of public money in the erection of a building that should do credit to the county renders it necessary that at least an ordinary amount of labor and good taste should be expended on its surroundings. "Had this been attended to in the beginning, we might now have the pleasure of walking on solid avenues through well grown shade trees, which, in proper season, with a setting of good sod, would enhance the beauty and comfort of the public ground and the value of surrounding lots for building purposes. We recommend at this time an appropriation sufficient to pave the avenues from the two corner gates and ^»******.3M^2MgH^2M9****'i'4M$HSMt'M3M!H$* two side gates to the doors of the Court House with good hard paving brick, with side-gutters to carry off the water. Also, to plant thrifty and quick-growing shade trees, and put the whole lot under a good sod of lawn grass. This done, we hope to find such regulations will be adopted as to keep the Court House and lot in decent order. "We further recommend the purchase of a new carpet or mat- ting for the court-room, the one now upon it being a mass of filth and rags. Respectfully submitted, J. Gilbert Bros. & Co., Inc., Baltimore Whites of Relief Breakers of fy'n CRANK C icorst enemies MANY car owners seem to think that the oil in the crank case ought to last indefinitely. They forget that there are two very serious sources of oil contamination. First of all, unless your car is equipped with an air strainer, you are going to have a surprising amount of dust drawn in with the mixture. This dust is caught by the oil, accumulates there and is ground through the bearings over and over again. You know how much dust accumulates on the car body in the course of 500 miles of driving. In the engine it is much worse, for here are four, six or eight "lungs" drawing in dust every revolution and that dust has little chance to escape from the sticky oil. Then, too, in starting, and especially if you overdo the use of the choke, unburned fuel leaks down and is absorbed by the crank case oil. Gasoline does not lubricate. It dilutes and "cuts" the lubricant. These two causes eventually reduce the efficiency of even the best oil. The only safe way to overcome this is to drain, flush, and refill the crank case with fresh oil regularly every 500 miles. Before having new "Standard" Polarine Motor Oil put in be sure to have the crank case thoroughly flushed out. "Standard" Flushing Oil is a light oil especially designed for this purpose.
