On Wednesday night, Oct. 1st, Alexander F. Fedeli, a contractor, was shot and killed by his wife under the following circumstances: Fedeli left the city in his machine in the evening in company with a woman; his wife followed him in another machine, accompanied by their 14-year-old son. He stopped at a road house and he and the woman had supper. The wife waited until he came out and entered his machine. She continued following him; he selected a dark, slightly traveled road near Stevenson's Station in the Green Sprin Valley; he parked his machine and put out the lights; his wife got out of hef machine, went to his and faced him and the woman—the wife fired three shots and the husband fell dead. What happened between husband and wife and the woman before the shots were fired will be told at the trial. When the weather is good you can go in any direction within ten miles of the city and find on most any road, but particularly the unlighted and infrequented roads machines parked at all hours of the night and without; lights, and in every case they contain a man and and a woman. You will never find them to be man and wife; and where it is not an open case of prostitution you will find that the car contains some designing scoundrel with some other man's wife or daughter—and the car is dark because his designs are evil. This condition is known by every one who travels the roads and it requires drastic treatment to put an end to it. We think it would be a good idea for the police department to get busy and make a round up. If the men and women who occupy these dark machines were brought into the limelight and each charged with disorderly conduct it would pretty nearly break it up. We hope the Department will take 'our view of it, for it is disgraceful, and there is no reason why we should have the odium of it in the county. Baltimore city drove them out of the parks some time ago. Now let Baltimore county get busy and a score of exposures will put an end to it. THE NEGRO VOTE ER A CERTAIN REPUB^ LICAN ASSET. The following editorial from the Afro-American of October 3rd last, the powerful organ in Maryland of the race, must be galling to the Republican organization of Maryland. Years back the colored voter got his orders from Republican headquarters in Maryland, and it never entered his head to question why? Things are different now, and they cannot be counted because of their color. The editorial which follows illustrates the difference in their attitude: "G. O. P., Grand Old Party, has become Grand Old Pussy--'ooters. The only sincere, sensible speech in the present campaign was written but not delivered by Secretary of Navy, Wilbur, at Denver, Colorado. What happened to it? Copies of it were filed first at Washington, and a fearful '' Cal'' kept the wires so hot that Wilbur canceled all speaking engagements and took an aeroplane for Washington. Lincoln must have turned over in his grave. Charles Summer and Frederick Douglas must have done a double somersault, and Teddy Roosevelt groaned aloud. Heie is "Silent Cal" Coolidge afraid to condemn the Ku Klux Klan and its program of mob violence because so many Republicans in Maine and Indiana are Klansmen. He muzzles Wilbur, who wanted to say that the Negro problem is the main issue in politics and the main question is not the tariff, but whether the South shall be permitted to segregate, disfranchise and mob Americans because they are colored. * It's a fine spectacle, this G. 0. P. in 1924. The initials undoubtedly stand for Grand Old Pussy-footers." THE LEVY. No task of the year is of more importance to the County Commissioners than that which faces them just now, as they are preparing to make up the levy for 1925. On the one side they are confronted by departments and institutions demanding their usual large sums, while on the other there stands an army of taxpayers holding out a restraining hand. Truly the position of the Commissioners at such a time is far from being a pleasant one, as they cannot hope to please both, hence the only safe way is to, treat every demand in a businesslike manner, levying strictly according to its merits regardless of political consequences. Naturally, none of us are seeking higher taxes, and we know that the County Commissioners will do all in their power to reduce them. The rigid economy that is being applied at the Court House seems to make certain that something will be lopped off our tax bill next-year. f the Metropolitan Sanitary t, the duties of which is to fuT*ish water and sewerage to thickly populated sections of the county, was a timely and needed adjunct to our municipality. Towson was "as dry as a bone" on Wednesday, for there was not a drop of water to be had, and needless to say a hardship was worked on householders and industries which might have been averted. Providence was kind to the county seat, for if a fire of serious proportions had broken out there is no telling what might have happened. This is not the first time that Towson and other Towns in the county, Avhich are compelled t->) depend on Baltimore city for their water supply have suffered, for we can recall a few years back when Towson, Lutherville and numerous other sections Were without water for three or four days, right in the hottest) part of summer.
