Trade Mark Registered w STORIES Pictured by LANG CAMPBELL I, Once upon a time, when Uncle Wiggily was hopping through the woods, "having been to the store for Nurse Jane, he heard some one crying under the trees. "Who are you?" asked the rabbit. "I am a Baby Bear, and I'm lost! Boo! Hoo!" sobbed the Bear. "An' my little wagon is broken!" Uncle Wiggily said: "Never mind! I'll take you to my bungalow and fix your wagon. Nurse Jane will feed you!" 4. "Come on!" growled Mr. Bear to Mrs. Bear. 'AVe'll fix Uncle Wiggily for taking Baby Bear!" The Weasels said: "Take us along; we can show you where the bunny's bungalow is." So the sly Weasels were put in a hammock and the Bears, thinking Uncle Wiggily had stolen Baby Bear, started off, very angry. But we know Uncle Wiggily would not hurt Baby Bear, don't we? Now we'll see what happens. 7. Pretty soon the sly Weasels led the Big Bears to Uncle Wiggily's hollow stump bungalow. "The rabbit has your Baby Bear in there!" said the bad chaps. "Break open his bungalow. We'll catch Uncle Wiggily for yo'uf" The Father Bear banged on the door with his big club. "Hello, v/hat do you want?" asked the bunny. "We want our Baby Bear!" growled Mrs. Bear. "Come right in!" said the rabbit. *ZLt*J*a 2. Uncle Wiggily fastened his red, white and. blue striped rheumatism crutch under the broken wheel. "Now 1 can pull your wagon," said the bunny. "And I'll ride you to my bungalow. Then I'll try to find your father and mother." The Baby Bear got in the v/agon, and Uncle Wiggily pulled him, though it was hard work. Two bad Weasels saw what had happened. "We'll play a trick on Unrle Wiggily!" they said. 5. Meanwhile Uncle Wiggily had brought Baby Bear to the hollow stump bungalow. "Oh, 1 like it here!" grunted Baby Bear. "It's 'most as nice as home. An' has you got anything to eat?" Nurse Jane told Baby Bear to sit in a chair and she would give him some bread and sugar. Baby Bear sat down, but he.was so heavy he broke the chair. "Ha! Ha!" laughed the bunny. "No harm done at all!" 8. "It's going to be easier than we thought!" whispered one Weasel no the other "We'll soon have that rabbit!" Uncle Wiggily opened his door to the Big Bears, for he had nothing to hide. "There is your little one," laughed the bunny. "1 found him in the woods. He broke my chair and he broke my bed, but he can't break the stove, and there is no fire in it to burn him." "Hurrah!" laughed the jolly. Baby Bear. 3. "We'll go tell the Big Bears that Uncle Wiggily has taken away Baby Bear," said one Weasel to the other. "The Big Bears will tear Uncle Wiggily's bungalow all to pieces and then we'll catch him!" So the Weasels ran to the den of the Big Bear. "Oh, Uncle Wiggily took Baby Bear!" whined the Weasel. "Then we'll go scratch Uncle Wiggily!" growled the Big Bears. "Ha! Ha!" the sly Weasels laughed. 6. "I'm sorry 1 broke the chair," said Baby Bear. "I guess we'll have to find something stronger for you to sit on," spoke Nurse Jane. "Try the bed." But when Baby Bear sat on Uncle Wiggily's bed, that also broke, and down went Baby Bear with a crackle of wood. "Oh, my goodness!" cried Nurse Jane, "Don't mind a little thingdike this!" laughed Uncle Wiggily. "We're having jolly fun, I'll say!" 9. When tiic Big Bjars saw how happy their Baby Bear was, and knew that Uncle Wiggily had been kind to him, Mr. Bear growlsfl; "Where are those bad Weasels?" And Uncle Wiggily said: "Please chase them away, for they wanted to catch me!" Daddy Bear find the bunny made the bad- Weasels run off in the woods and hide. And utter that the Bears, Nurse Jane ant* Uncle Wiggily were great friends. And il the bed spring doesn't catch cold when it chases the ice water aronnd the piano, the next pictures and story will be about uncle wiGcajf's mrnwe parti; i J.' 1 Hi i'ul. t.: * |
