One day Uncle Wiggily said to Nurse Jane: "Come with me; 1 know where we can have some fun!" The muskrat lady wanted to know where, but the bunny wouldn't tell her. "It's a surprise!" he said. Uncle Wiggily took Nurse-Jane to a high roller-coaster. There they met Uncle Butter. "Come on ride!" begged the rabbit. "Oh, no, I'm afraid!" squealed Nurse Jane. They tried to pull her to the coaster. 4. So Nurse Jane climbed down the side of the roller coaster. "But we will finish our ride, Uncle .Butter/ said the rabbit. "Surely!" bleated the goat. They got in again, and suddenly, when they were sliding down a steep place, out bounced Uncle Butter. Through the air he flew. "I wonder what is going to happen," he cried as he puft'ed very hard on his pipe, making believe he was an aeroplane. 7. But Uncle Wiggily was lucky. He and Uncle Butter fell into their coaster again just before reaching the rock. And the rock seemed to be rather soft, for they weren't hurt when they landed. The coaster was going so fast that it ran right up the hill of rock which seemed part of the roller machine. Up and up whizzed the bunny and goat. Then Uncle Wiggily looked and cried: "A bear! A bear! Zowie!" 2. At last Uncle Wiggily said: "Never mind, Uncle Butter. If Nurse Jane doesn't .want to ride with us we won't tease her. Come on, you and 1 will have a fine ride. When she sees us, she will wish she had come." So the bunny and the goat got in' the coaster and started down. But, all of a sudden, Nurse Jane's dress caught and she was also pulled down the slide. "Oh, look what's happening!" cried the Squigglers. 3. All of a quickness, as the coaster rolled up totthe top of a high place, Uncle Wiggily looked behind him and saw Nurse Jane dragging along. 'We must stop!" cried the rabbit. "Stop it is!" bleated the goat, and he caught his horns on the side railing and the car stopped. "Get in and ride, Janie!" invited Uncle Wiggily. "Oh, no, I'm too dizzy!" cried Miss Fuzzy Wuzzy. "Let me climb down to the ground." 5. Faster and faster rolled Uncle Wiggily. Faster and faster through the air sailed Uncle Butter, until, at last, the goat jumped back into the coaster. But he landed in front of the rabbit. "Now you steer, Uncle Butter!",cried Mr. Longears. "Watch me!" bleated the goat. Faster and faster rolled the coaster, until, all of a sudden, Uncle Wiggily peeked over Uncle Butter's shoulder and cried: "Look!" 6. "What's the matter?" bleated Uncle Butter. "Look at the hole!" cried the rabbit. "We'll fall down there and be scrunched!" But no! When the coaster reached the gap it bounced up in the air and went sailing right across the hole. The bunny and the goat bounced up also. Along they sailed. "We are going to have a hard time landing," said Uncie Butter. "I'm afraid there'll be trouble when we hit the rock!" 8. "What's that, a bear?" bleated Uncle Butter. "Yes, at the top of this rocky hill!" answered the rabbit. "Come on—jump!" cried Uncle Butter. Head over heels he leaped from the coaster. Head over heels Uncle Wiggily followed him. And down the rock they slid turning somersaults. "Ah, here is where 1 get a good ride!" roared the Bear, jumping into the coaster. Down he wenf after the bunny. >^ (^PSEL>%2-*4 9. At the foot of the rock-hill was a tree. Uncle Wiggily didn't see this until too late. Neither did Uncle Butter. They bumped into it. The Bear, not knowing how to steer a roller coaster, smashed into the-tree and broke his apple-cart. Then Uncle Wiggily and the goat, sitting up, saw who the Bear was. "Why it's our friend Mr. Stubtail!" they cried. "Of course I am! Glad to see you .'"roared the jolly Bear. And if the rubber ball doesn't try to hide in the bean bag wherethe rag doll can't find it to eat for her supper, the next story end pictures will be about UNCLE WIGGILY GOING HUNTING. aryland State Archives mdsa_sc3410_1_81-0356.jpg |
