NOVEMBER 11TH IS ARMISTICE DAY. (From the Washington Correspondent of The Jeffersonian) If the life of every dollar bill circulated in the United States can be prolonged two months, the Government will annually save $1,666,000, according to Secretary of the Treasury Mellon. He continued: "During the last three years an unprecedented demand has developed for paper currency of the smaller denominations. This is partiularly true of one-dollar notes, which are being used in increasingly large numbers. In order to supply the demand and meet redemption of unfit and mutilated dollar bills, it is necessary to print and put into circulation 48,000,000 of these bills monthly. "A note which is thus rushed through the process of manufacture becomes unfit for circulation within seven or eight months of issue, whereas notes which have been given a reasonable period of seasoning will continue in'circulation from ten to eleven months." Mellon said that bankers are constantly complaining of the poor quality of the paper money. The Treasury intends to build up a reserve supply of currency. ---------o--------- COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION TO TAKE SCHOOL. CENSUS. ANNOUNCES OPENING WITH COMPLETE STOCK OF CHOICE MEATS 6***********************A^ The new pumping station connected with the Towson reservoir, and which will force water from the reservoir to the Towson standpipe, will be placed in operation within two weeks, according to Water Engineer V. Bernard Siems. The station is at Burke avenue and Hillen Road, Towson. The machinery will be operated by electricity and needs no attention other than inspection at the regular intervals. When this is in operation the Roland avenue and Arlington standpipes will be abandoned while the construction of the Pikes-ville reservoir is going on. Engineer Siems says applications for water are being received at his office at the rate of 800 a month, which shows that building operations in the city and suburbs are growing to a large extent. *?—*———?—-~~ 2500 TONS Galvanized Flat and Corrugated Sheets For Garages and Barns ? ? f i I WM.
