PIKESVILLE RESIDENTS IN UPROAR OVER PHONE GIRL'S REMOVAL. A regular meeting of the Pikes-ville Improvement Association developed a storm of protest directed at the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company because of what members called unfair treatment of Miss Anna K. Barron, for many years chief operator of the Pikes-ville Exchange, The association decided to send a letter of protest to the telephone company and a resolution of sympathy and. regret to Miss Barron. When Miss Barron was removed as chief operator last summer a committee headed by County Commissioner William P. Cognlan, Raymond A. Duke, president of the Association, and John . F. McGraw, called upon officials of the Company and asked that she be reinstated Members of the committee said her reinstatement was promised. Miss Barron was returned to Pikesville in a subordinate position for a few weeks, it was said, and then removed and given night work. She resigned last week, although she was within a short time of completing the term of service necessary to a pension. One speaker referred to Miss Barron's resignation as a "freeze-out" and said: "The Telephone Company has a right to do what it pleases with its employes, but if it thinks it can get the good will of the public by such acts it is mistaken." When asked about the protest of the Pikesville Improvement Association, G. H. Warren, division manager, said: "About July 15 Miss A. K. Barron was relieved of the responsibilities as chief operator of the Pikesville central office to permit her the privilege of reviewing at division headquarters, Baltimore, important developments in operating practices. The action taken was wholly in the interest of Miss Barron and the subscribers of Pikesville. "Having completed her assignment in Baltimore, she returned to Pikesville ac chief operator October 17 and later asked to be relieved of the responsibilities of this position, requesting regular night operating work instead, to which she was assigned on November 2." ----------o---------- ARDUOUS WORK FAILS TO SAVE STOWAWAY. Sebastian Silment, native of Spain and citizen of the world, had a great longing to come to America. He arrived with blisters on his hands because of the work he had done en route. But he arrived illegally, as a stowaway aboard the steamer Firmore of the Ore Steamship Company, now lying off the county water front. He was ordered deported by immigration officials. Far more adventures and disappointments than he had bargained for were encountered by Sebastian on his trip here. When the vessel left Daiuiri, Cuba, with a cargo of iron ore, Sebastian was hidden in the hold. There would be but a short run to Baltimore and then the Spaniard hoped to slip over the side of the vessel and evade the watchman. When the Firmore was but one day out of Daiuiri she ran into a hard tropical storm and piled high and dry on a reef near Fortune Isle. For five days she remained there, being pounded by heavy seas, while the crew worked desperately, hoping to free her before she was seriously damaged. In the meantime Sebastian was discovered when the lightening of the vessel started. And despite a vast hunger he was forced to aid the hard-working crew. The Firmore was finally freed with the aid of the steamer Santore of the same line. CATONSVILLE BUILDER UNDERGOES OPERATION. STOCKHOLDERS' MEETING. IN THE CIRCUIT COURT FOR BALTIMORE COUNTY IN EQUITY. The object of this suit is to procure a decree for the sale of certain real estate in Baltimore County, State of Maryland, of which Clarence W. McMaster died seized and possessed. The Bill states that the said Clarence W. McMaster inherited from his father. Adam McMaster, two lots of g'round situated in Towson. Baltimore County, one having a frontage of 44 feet 6 inches and the other a frontage of 80 feet on the South side of Alleghany Avenue, both with a dept of 150 feet, the former bein? improved bv a double dwelling now known as Nos. 31 and 33 Allearhany Avenue and the latter being improved by a single house now known as 29 Alleghany avenue. That the said Clarence W. McMaster, by his Will dated September 9, 1901 and duly probated and recorded among the Wills Records of Baltimore County in Liber J. E. B. No. 14, folio 118, etc., in effect devised the aforesaid rial estate to the Plaintiff for life, with power of disposition should sin remain his widow, or in the event of her marriage, upon her death to Warren S. Seipp, certifi'-il conies of the title deeds to said real estate and of said Will being filed as exhibits with the Bill of Complaint. Averment is made that the income now derived from said real estate by the Plaintiff is insufficient to provide for the up-keep thereof, she having ttly been obliged to make an outlay of more than $1000.00 for necessary Imnrovements, and she says that it would be to her interest and advantage, as life tenant, as well as to the interest and advantage of the contingent remaindermen, to have said real estate sold under a decree of Court and the proceeds invested or cli 'tributed in accordance with the Will of the said Clarence W. McMaster. The Bill further states that the Plaintiff now has an opportunity of making an advantageous sale of the lot and double house first above mentioned to J. Howard Murray for the price of $6,000.00. Averment is made that the said Clarence W. McMaster left no surviving children or descendants. nor brothers and sisters or their descendants, and the only persons who could oossibly become interested in the distribution of his estate in the event that his widow should die, without having remarried and without having disposed of said property, consist of the following collateral heirs at law: A—The unknown heirs of Clarence W. McMaster on the part of his father, Adam McMaster, consisting of three half sisters and one half brother of the said Adam McMaster, whose names and whereabouts are to the Plaintiff unknown. B—And the following heirs on the part - of the Mother of said Clarence W. McMaster, viz: Josephine Camp, Violetta Carpenter and Percy Carpenter, her husband: John Shrum, William Shrum and Frances Shrum, his wife; May Baer and her husband; Charles Unkle and his wife: Spencer Unkle, Luther'Unkle, Benjamin Unkle and his wife; Alice Unkle, Emma Unkle and her husband; Clara V. Curtis, Mary A. Scott, Mary Weidler, John Weidler and Nelia Wetdler, his wife; George Weidier and Cora Weidler, his wife; Frank Weidler and Mary Weidler, his wife. Averment is made that all of the aforesaid heirs are adults and_ non-r< sidents of the State of Maryland ex-cf pt Josephine Camp, who resides in [Baltimore City, Maryland. The specific relief prayed for in ?a!d Bill is that the real estate of the said Clarence W. McMaster be decreed to be sold and that a Trustee be appointed for that purpose; that the said Contract of Sale to J. How-furray be consummated; that the proceeds of such sale or sales be in- ested under the jurisdiction of the Court, for the use and benefit of the Plaintiff, subject to final disposition in accordance with the Will of Clarence W. McMaster, and that the Plaintiff might have suph other or further relief as her case may require. It is thereupon this 13th day of NV-erpber, 1924, Ordered by the Circuit Court for Baltimore County, In Equity, that the Plaintiff by causing a ci py of this order to be inserted in some newspaper published in Balti-more County once in each of four ssive weeks before tie 15th dav p..rri^ber, 124, give notice to the absent defendants of the obiect I suostance of this Bill, warning them to be and appear in this Court, in person or by Solicitor, On 0r before the 2nd day of January, 1925; to show cause, if any they have whv a decree should not be passed as prayed.
