When the holders of these positions were appointed, their tenures of office were to expire in 1926. Then the fewer elections amendment to the State Constitution was adopted, and one of the effects of this amendment was to cut the present Gubernatorial term from the usual four years to three.
To bring the terms of the appointed officials into harmony with the term of the Governor to be elected in 1926, the fewed elections amendment provided, among other things, that:

Automobiles have increased the J peril to wild birds and other game I by 50 per cent., according to State I Game Warden E. Lee Le Compte.
Consequently there is special need of protecting Maryland game during closed seasons for hunting and for providing food and shelter for wild game during severe weather, he declared.
To further propagation of game, the State has leased Baltimore city property at Loch Raven, and planted soy bean, kaffir corn and buckwheat to serve as food and shelter for birds during the winter. S/lmilar measures have been taken at various State properties and farmers have been distributed seed free on condition that the grain be allowed to stand all winter as protection for1 birds.
Use of the automobile by hunters has made formerly inaccessible sections within easy reach and increased the amount of game killed, Mr. Le Compte declared. He pointed out that there are now no sections unfrequented by hunters except game preserves on which all gunning is banned.

The Baltimore county tax rate for 1925 has been fixed by the County Commissioners at Towson at $1.64 on $100. This is an increase of. two cents over the 1924 rate.
In a statement given out by the! commissioners it is declared this increase was made necessary to provide $70,000 for the first payment for a necessary addition to the Court House. Otherwise the rate would have been lowered about four cents. Work will begin on the addition the early part of 1925.
About $7,000,000 was added to the taxable basis for 1925, making the total basis $119,805,470. The appropriations for 1925 amount to $2,112,137.08, the principal appropriations being as follows:
Schools, $830,779; highways, $593,621; fire department, $127,-000; police department, $101,000; lighting, $95,000; addition to Courts House, $70,000. j
In addition to the regular county] tax a special tax of 20 cents is levied: for local improvements in the village j of Lutherville, Lansdowne a n d j Joshua, Relay and Monumental, and 30 cents for Towson.
The new fiscal year will begin January 1.
