Fifteen thousand cottontail rabbits will be released in Maryland during the first three months of 1925, State Game Warden E. Lee LeCompte announced. Contracts recently have been made for purchase of the rabbits, which will be brought from Missouri and Kansas. There were 18,000 rabbits released last year by the State Game Department. While there is no way of ascertaining definitely the total number of rabbits killed by hunters, investigation by the State Game Department led to an estimate of more than 500,000 killed last year. Except under especially adverse conditions, which cannot be predetermined, the natural propagation of rabbits plus the importations, should prevent any lessening in the number of the animals.
