I SAIL THE SEA, BRAVE AS CAN BE! I DRINK MOLASSES COLD! YO, HO! YO, HO! I'VE HIDDEN POTS OF GOLD! Text by HOWARD R GARIS Author of the Famous UNCLE WIOOILY BED11MB STORIES Pictured by LANG CAMPBELL t. Once upon a time the Bob Cat said the Bear: "I know how we can catch Uncle Wiggily!" The Bear wanted to know how "We'll find a cave and hide in it," said the Bob Cat. "Uncle Wiggily will come along and when he sees the cave he will want to come in to look for an adventure. We'll keep very still and quiet until he comes hi the cave. Once he's inside we'll have him!" The Bear said: "Let's try!" ¦ 2. Soon after the Bob Cat and Bear hid themselves in a cave which they found, Floppy Twistytail and Billie Wagtail made themselves a raft-boat to go sailing. "Let's pretend we're pirates!" grunted Floppy. 'Alt right," bleated Billie. "But we ought to find'a pirate's cave and go in that. Let's ask Uncle Wiggily if he knows where there's a pirate's cave." So they teased the bunny uncle to come sailing. i , I, .. . 4. "All right!" agreed Uncle Wiggily. "But what shall we do when we get to the pirate's cave'" Billie'and Floppy thought about this for a moment, and then Floppy said: "I think Billie ought to go in first and see if it's all right!" Billie bleated- "Baa-a-a-a! I thihk Floppy pught to go in first. If he sees a pirate he can grunt at him." But the piggie boy said "You can horn him, Billie-! You go in first!" • I- ir r ii i" ¦¦";¦!r i '¦< 5. Billy and Floppy couldn't decide who should go into the pirate's cave, so Uncle Wiggily said: "I'll count out." He counted: "Eenie meenie, minie mo! Into the cave you must go!" And the Count came to Floppy Not liking it very much, the pig boy went into the cave. But, all'of a sudden he came running out again*. "Oh, there's a big black pirate in there!" he cried. "He threw a rock at me'" j* ^fm- % ,„. 3. "All right!" laughed Uncle Wiggily, "if were going to play at being pirates we must dress like thern." So he found some old swords and pistols and he and the two little boys went abdard the raft. "Yo, ho! Where shall we sail, Uncle Capta'in Wiggily5" grunted Floppy' "Sail to the pirate's cave1" ordered the rabbit. "Oh, I saw a cave down on the shore a little way," bleated Billie. "Let's go there'" 6. Uncle Wiggily and Billie were surprised to see Floppy come out of the cave in such a hurrv. . "Are you fooling, Floppy, or did you really see a pirate in there >" bleated the goat. "1 saw something big and black!" grunted the pig boy. "Aw, I don't care! I'm not afraid of anything black' I'm going in!" bleated Billie. While Uncle Wiggily stood,ready to help, and Floppy hid, Billie went in-—and came out! t. "Baa! Baa! Baa-a-a-a!" bleated Billie, al he came somersault. iftff out of the cave. "Did you see the pirate?" fcrtinted Floppy. "1 saw two of them!" bleatedTBillie. "Oh, my head! My head!" He sat down while Floppy splashed some water on him where the stones had hit the goat. "I'll see what this means!" cried the brave bunny. "1 don't believe there are any pirates in that cave. But if there are—" —'-------------------------------¦ - i . • . - ¦ . ¦ - -r. .. ¦ i», , S. You hadn't better go in that cave, Uncle Wiggily!" grunted Floppy . "No! Stay out!" begged Billie. "Nonsense!" cried the brave rabbit. "I'll capture the pirates! But you boys had better move off a little way., Something may happen." Uncle Wiggily marched boldly into the pirate's cave. Soon out came a shower of rocks, gravel, sticks and leaves. "Something is happening all right!" grunted Floppy. i i....»..I »¦ i -in i .1 ¦ i i .. i.......¦ .i i. ¦ii. 9. All Of a sudden there was a howl and a growl inside the cave. "1 guess that's the end of Uncle Wiggily!" sadly said Floppy. "Yes, the pirate has him!" bleated Billie. But, the next moment, out of the cave came marching the Bob Cat and Bear, tied together. Behind them came brave Captain Uncle Wiggily. "The Squiggle Bugs tickled the bad chaps and 1 tied them up!" laughed the rabbit. "Hurray!"
