been made if the advice of this Wall Street stock and land operator had been followed—which I for one did not do. But I have watched with keen interest the progress that has been made on Howard street and in the neighborhood of North avenue and Charles street, which he claimed would become an important secondary trading centre.
Since then I have repeatedly told some friends that in my judgment Towson would also become one of these secondary trading centers of

great importance; and every time I motored through your section of country I was more deeply impressed with the fact. But there is one drawback to the best development of Towson which it seems to me your people or your officials ought to take cognizance of in order to aid in this development. There are too many short curves and, twisted streets leading out of the neighborhood of Dulany's Pike and the York Road. Regardless of the question of cost, through condemnation of property, I think these streets should be straightened, and some of the old shacks wiped out; regardless, too, of the time when Goucher College is to begin the erection of its buildings.
Another serious element agaginst the growth of your community are those unsightly, insanitary hovels on York Road occupied by the colored folks.
I have traveled much through the South, but I do not believe I can recall anywhere in the South such a lot of disreputable looking, insanitary houses occupied by human beings as are these negro shanties. They reflect on your community; they are a great drawback, because people necessarily to some extent judge a community harshly if it permits such conditions to exist. I do not know how you can get rid of them, but if there is no other way of doing it, it seems to me they should be condemned as a public nuisance,

As distributors in this territory for the Service Motors, Inc., Wabash, Ind., manufacturers of Service Trucks.
Service Trucks are designed with a thorough understanding of truck-operating conditions. They are built to do the work you will require of them with the minimum of attention or care. They are designed for continuous service under »the most exacting conditions. All the valuable features of truck design that our twelve years of specialization in truck-building have developed are embodied in the Service Trucks of today. Experimental construction is rigidly excluded until it is unquestionably perfected and proved.
Service Trucks, while not the highest priced trucks made, are not sold at a low price. If they were, they could not be good, but they are positively the lowest price and cheapest truck in the end, by reason of their long life, comparatively light upkeep expense and reasonable price on repair parts, and their ability to give the greatest ton mileage for the least cost.

dangerous to the health of the community.
As I have watched the growth of Baltimore, and the appreciation, or sometimes the lack of appreciation of the value of property in a growing city, with what is taking place in Florida, I get very much amazed at times at how little value is placed on Baltimore property as compared with property in the growing cities of the South. And yet probably more money is made in the most progressive cities of the country which rightly appreciate the value of real estate through the enhancement of real property than in any other way. Many of the greatest fortunes of the world have come through the enhancement of real estate in growing cities. But somehow Maryland folks, it seems to me, have never rightly visualized in advance what city growth means in the value of property.
Here in Daytona, for instance, good residence property sells at a much higher figure than even in Roland Park or Guilford, and many of the ablest business men in the United States are investors in it. Property on the beach front for residence purposes sells at from $150 to $200 a front foot, and these properties are being bought not simply by speculators, but by men of af- j fairs from, all over the country. But when we talk about the real estate' development that is going on in Florida, there are some places which got a start years ago ahead of Daytona, such as Palm Beach and Miami, and down there ocean front property sells for $1000 a front foot for residence purposes. Two big land companies operating in that section run superb busses seating about 24 people, and from all parts of the State. For instance, the busses that are run every day or two from Jacksonville to Miami by these companies have a trip of nearly 400 miles each way. They give a free excursion of five days to everybody who wants to go; and from December 1st up to two weeks ago one of these companies had sold $5,000,000 worth of property, and another has sold within the last two years $7,-000,000 worth.
But coming back to the Towson situation, it seems to me that it could have been evident from the day the York Road was repaved that the development along that road and out to Towson would be rapid. I recently had a letter from Baltimore criticizing the development on the York Road in comparison with Roland Park and Guilford, as being less pretentious and costly. But my reply was that there are fifty buyers of moderate priced property in Baltimore for one buyer of expensive homes in Roland Park and Guilford; and that I looked upon the character of development that was taking place along York Road as insuring a larger population in that section, and larger business development along that road and in Towson than would have come about if there had been the same class of development all the way from the city to* Towson of the Guilford character.
All of this takes for the growth and development of Towson. It insures a large trading popukg^on tributary to Towson, and in studying this situation the thought has occurred to me that the Towson people should get ready for this growth by a city-planning scheme which would straighten out some of its streets and roads, eliminate the eyesores of negro huts on York Road, and plan to make Towson a thing of beauty and, therefore, a joy forever. Beauty is a business asset to any community. A beautiful town, with an abundance of shade and flowers, like! a beautifu store, attracts people, and in the end is a profitable investment. Down here I have seen so much of the work that is being done to beautify this and other communities in the State that I would like to see every town in Maryland carry on the same kind of campaign.
Today there is being held in the central part of the State a great meeting for the beautification of the entire State—the beautification of the highways, the planting of trees and flowers along them; and all over the State Garden Clubs are being organized to encourage everybody to do their utmost in raising flowers and beautifying their grounds. Similar activities could be carried on throughout Maryland, and Towson, by a well planned campaign.

DEED FILED CONVEYING TOWSON PROPERTY.
A deed was filed by which Albert S. Cook and wife convey their residence on the southwest corner of Chesapeake and Baltimore avenues to Edward H. Burke and wife. The revenue stamps indicate that the consideration was $10,500. Mr. Cook has nearly completed the erection of a fine new residence at Aig-burth Park.
DR. BOWEN'S CHANCES GOOD.
Dame Rumor has it that Dr. Jos-iah Bowen, recommended for the job as full-time Health Officer for Baltimore County by the County Medical Association, has a good chance of landing the berth.
While the County Commissioners have taken no action in the matter as yet, it is reported the appointment will be made within a short time.

DOGS KILL MORE GAME DURING CLOSED SEASON THAN HUNTERS DO IN OPEN.
More complaints are received by the State Game Department with regard to dogs running at large destroying game than from any other source; in fact it is estimated that "pups" kill more game than do the hunters during "open season."
If persons who own dogs would keep them tied up from April 1st to Sept. 1st, thousands of pieces of game would be saved annually.
During the propagating season dogs destroy hundreds of rabbits. ----------o----------

Entirely Restored to Health
by Lydia E. Pinkham's
Vegetable Compound
Mart, Texas.—"I have taken Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound to build me up as I was all run-down, nervous and3ick. I achetf and hurt all over so that I was often compelled to go to bed, and I had to have most of my work done. No medicine seemed to help me until oneof my neighbors who was taking the Vegetable Com-Jpound insisted on me trying a bottle of it. The medicine helped me from the first, and the best of all is that I can even sew again without that awful, nervous feeling I was used to having. And I used to take crying spells, with such a blue feeling that I cannot explain. Now all that has left me. I feel so cheerful, and I hp.ve gained in weight, sleep well and eat hearty. Oh! I wish I had words to express what this medicine has done for me! I am a housekeeper and do everything from the sewing to the washing now and it doesn't hurt me. You may use my letter in any way you wish. I will be glad to help any suffering woman to the road of health and happiness."— Mrs. B. F. Brannon, 404 Travis Ave,,
