How often you hear such remarks as: "it's not nearly as good as Buick." People make these remarks both conscious^ and unconsciously. Consciously, because they actually know Buick value either from their own experience or that of their friends ; unconsciously, because for twenty years Buick has been the accepted standard of the industry. Good reasons, both, why you should own a Buick. YORK ROAD GARAGE Baltimore County Buick Dealers TOWSON, MD. SBBBBBSflffiBBBBBBSBBBBBBSBBaBBBBBflBflBBBBl m a a m a S3 B a a S3 BBBBBBBBBBBSBBBBSBBB! Phone, Calvert 2954 Plasterers Highest Paijd—Hod Carriers Get Big Wage—Cost Of Labor And Materials Stand At Exactly Same Increased Levels, For First Time Since 1920. Building costs in the United States in the midst of what economists have agreed is the country's greatest construction boom, have doubled in the last ten years, according to an announcement issued by the national industrial conference board. In its announcement the board summarized the results of a study it has been making into the national building situation. The costs of labor and of materials stand at exactly the same increased levels, for the first time since 1920. While in New York city the building crafts receive high wages, the study shows that last month they were the highest in the country in only ten out of twenty-five trades. Other cities reporting uniformly high wages are Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Houston, Tex. Among the separate trades, plas- BE A GENTLEMAN and APPEAR A GENTLEMAN. Seward, President. terers and bricklayers receive the bulkiest pay envelopes in virtually all cities. Bricklayers get $1.25 an hour in 50 cities, and plasterers in 44 cities, while in St. Louis the rate is $1.75 an hour. Lathers and masons get $1.50 an hour in Houston, Tex., the same rate being received by roofers and hoisting engineers in .New York,. Masons get $11.25 an hour or more in 28 cities, lathers in 12 cities, hoisting engineers in 7 cities and roofers in 4. Gasfitters and steamfitters in Houston, plumbers in Houston and Pittsburgh, ornamental iron workers in Cleveland, marble setters in Philadelphia and tile setters in Shreveport, La., all get %l.ZTYz an hour. In New York the trades best paid next to those above cited are carpenters, cement finishers, painters, pipe coverers, sheet metal workers and structural iron workers. These get $1.31^ an hour. Although their wages are less, steam-fitters' helpers and laborers get the highest wages in the country in New York. The hodcarier, once figuring prominently as the butt of cartoon and caricature, now counts himself among the aristocracy of labor, according to the board"s survey, for he earns up to $1.25 an hour, and the average earned by all hodcar-riers is more than 80 cents an hour in the cities surveyed. The same sustained high levels as shown by the trades mentioned are also being experienced by plumbers, electricians, carpenters and sheet metal workers. i Prices of building materials until recently more than kept pace with; the rise in wages. From 1915 to 1920 the prices of materials increased more than twice as much as wages. In 1921, however, they fell to approximately the same levels as wages, and during the last year the present 100 per cent, increase over 1914 in both was established. MISS AMELIA H. An old stage coach which has reposed peaceably in the sheds over at the Kingsville Inn, on the Belair Road, for month and months, will soon begin its journey to Detroit, where it will find a place among the antiques of Henry Ford, who makes the "flivvers" that now infest the byways and highways like so many ants. The vehicle, nearly 60 years old, came into the possession of Frank Goettner, proprietor of the Inn, by chance. Turned out by the Abbot-Bouing Co., of Concord, New Hampshire, in 1864, it finally became the property of a New Hampshire man who decided to migrate to California. He hooked it to the rear of his auto and in the vicinity of Kingsville the old coach broke down, and then and there realizing it could not stand the hard jolts to the Coast, it was sold to Mr. Goettner. For six years it was the roost of the chickens. In September Henry Ford took dinner at the Inn and in "nosing about" came across the old vehicle and right away he began negotiations for it, but just this week was the deal consumated. At the vesper service at St. Timothy's Protestant Episcopal Church, Catonsville, the children made a presentation of the Lenten Mite Chests. The rector, the Rev. Thos. H. Yardley, delivered an address. ----------o---------- FOUND SENSELESS ON ROAD. PATROLMAN DISMISSED.
