THE JEFFERSONIAN NEWSGRAVURE AM) .MAGAZINE SECTION. MARYLAND Lulu McConnell & Company. The best, of course, is a matter of opinion. The question who is the greatest comedienne would probably bring forth almost as many different replies as it would answers. But it is safe to include a few players as among the best, as there is no gain saying the superior comedy ability of many well-known actresses. Among this group is Miss AUDITORIUM Mats. Wed and Sat. In musical comedy she developed into one of the brightest of the stellar constellation and now she is returning to vaudeville with a reputation of the very highest order. Individuality in critics is responsible for the variety of critical expressions. In reviewing Jean Granese, one well-known scribe wrote as follows: Jean Granese is a big idea herself. She's one of those giant ideas that as it revolves supplies unexpected quantities of amusement. To say more of Miss Jean Granese would surely rob you of the pleasure born of hearing her sing. She is assisted by her brother Charles and Tito De Fiore, who are hexH accompanists. One of the most delightful comediennes the American stage has ever produced is Marie Cahill. Miss Cahill, by the sheer force of her personality and indelible art, has become without question pre-eminent in her calling. Musical comedy knows Miss Cahill well. In fact, there are few feminine stars who enjoy the same amount of public approbation as does this same, always enjoyable Miss Cahill. ---------o--------- ACADEMY. Beginning Monday night, March 17.th, The Dover Road, that delightful comedy by A. A. Milne, will be seen" at the Academy of Music, as presented by Stuart Walker's Baltimore Repertory Company, for the sixth week of their season here. The Dover Road was originally produced at the Bijou Theatre, New York, where it had a notable run with Charles Cherry featured in the cast. In the production at the Academy of Music, McKay Morris will be seen in the role originated by Charles Cherry, Mr. Lattimer, that of an enormously wealthy batchellor who cleverly intercepts eloping couples on the road to Dover; equally cleverly arranges that they remain at his house for one week under annoying and trying circumstances, then should their's be steadfast love rather than mere fairweather infatuation, they tire given his God speed on their way to France. But is there one such couple? Program Subject to Change. ^X^X^X^X^X^X^X^XK^X*** the doubting batchellor becomes a victim of his own guiles; the winsome miss who achieves the seemingly impossible being played by Miss Ruth Hammond, whose charming personality and signally versatile talent have greatly endeared her to the theatre-goers of Baltimore. Beulah Bondi will be seen in a much younger role than any of those in which she has appeared here, that of Ustasia, originally played by Mollie Pearson, and the distaff side of one of the two eloping couples. This will be the first time Baltimoreans have had the opportunity to see The Dover Road and its selection as the bill for the week of March 17 is in response to the many requests for Milne's charming comedy. In fact, for the past three weeks a number of reservations have been booked almost daily. ---------o--------- BOULEVARD. Big Brother will be played at The Boulevard on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with Tom Moore and Edith Roberts starring. This is a great picture and one that will appeal to every movie lover. On Thursday. Friday and Saturday Barbara La Marr and Lionel Barrymore will visit the theatre in the Eternal City, and those of you who have seen Mr. Barrymore and Barbara La Marr play together will know that this is worthwhile. ---------o--------- AUDITORIUM, Bertram Peacock, who is Franz Schubert in the Schubert operetta "Blossom Time,' coming to the Anuditorium Theatre next week, finds a very definite satisfaction in giving nightly to the public not only the romance and life of Schubert, the great composer, but his music as well. "Modern science has found that music has a very great influence upon life and character" he said the other day at the theatre in his dressing room. "In fact, there has sprung into being a sort of curative science based upon music which is being more fully developed. It pears that sweet harmonies and melodies are very good for certain diseases. "With the music of Franz Schubert there is a very definite effect". Schubert was unselfish. He was devoted to the true and the beautiful in life. He was simple, sincere, generous, kindly, and he put all of these qualitie3 and attributes into his musrc. Tl e result is that the pictures his music LHAKLEINl FLORIST WOODBINE AVE.
