THE JEFFERSONIAN, TOWSON, MARYLAND Saturday, February 9, 1924-Page 3 \IROD DELL QUITS EAGLE PAPER MILL. Mr. Nimrod Dell, who has been employed at the Eagle Paper Mill, near Walkers, has given up that task and gone into partnership with Mr. John Sipe in the mercantile business at Bentley Springs. iaBBBBHOBBBBH9iaaElKE3P s B ¦ s B s B m B B _ :«JJi DURANT and STAR CARS [ COURT GARAGE, Towson, Md. \ MOTOR COMMISSIONER LIKELY TO WIN REAPPOINTMENT—ONE OTHER BEING CONSIDERED Law Requires Submission Of Name Of Nominee To Senate On Or Before February 20th. From the Annapolis Correspondent of The Jefferrsonian.) Col. E. Austin Baughman will in all probability be reappointed Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, it became known this week. A "still hunt" conducted by Governor Ritchie to find an outstanding man whose appointment in place of Baughman would commend itself to the people of the State has met with failure. Only one such man, it develops, has been under serious consideration to supplant Baughman. A resident of Baltimore City, he is considered as possessing many of the qualifications considered requisite by the Governor, but certain obstacles stand in the way of his appointment. It now has been decided that obstacles are insurmountable, and he has been dropped from consideration. Reappointment of Baughman as a consequence, is considered certain. The law requires the Governor to submit the name of his nominee to the State Senate on or before February 20. Colonel Baughman has been Motor Vehicle Commissioner since the organization of the department. A delegation of business men called on the Governor at Annapolis about ten days ago to urge Mr. Baughman's reappointment. There was some suggestion that the demonstration was inspired by special deputies given badges by Baughman, but friends of the Commissioner claim that there is much spontaneous approval of his regime. The Governor is understood to have taken the attitude consistently that he would supplant Baughman if a man of undoubted genius for the work could be found. If such a man was not unearthed, Baughman would be reappointed. RADIO-GRAM BRINGS NEWS OF PARENT'S DEATH IN GERMANY. CHICAGO WOMAN VISITING AT COUNTY SEAT. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. "JEFF'S" PRINTER'S DEVIL PLAYS PRANK ON JOHNNY DONOVAN. Johnny Donovan, foreman at The Jeffersonian's plant, worked all day Thursday and did not realize he was passing his 30th milestone until he was advised by his brother, Eddy, who is the pressman, at 4.30. Luke Pearson, the Printers' Devil, who hails from up around Butler, that quiet little village nestling among the hills on the Western Run, overheard the conversation between John and his brother, slipped out and in a short while returned with a neatly wrapped box, about the size of a shoe container and handed it to "Fritz" Weimaster, the linotype operator. In a jiffy "Fritz" was up on a chair delivering a birthday oration, which ended in the presentation of the package to John, while "Commodore" Flayhart and the rest of the gang of ink slingers and space grabbers crowded around and anxiously awaited the opening of the package. John managed, although a bit nervous, to get the outer wrapper off, then a layer of tissue paper, another, still another, then some more an dfinally got down to a neat little bundle which ne cautiously opened, his eyes fairly popping with wonderment, and then the great surprise— a soup bone. Just at the moment that John's eyes focused on the novel birthday present Luke edged away and began to say: "Jo-hh-n-hn, I wish yo-u-u-u many hap-p-py re-tu-u-rns of th-h-hhe d-d-d-day," and with this a printer's mallet followed Luke closely as he vanished through the door. as a ghost/ The wonderful Willys-Knight sleeve-valve engine gives you quiet, silky action.
