FEBRUARY 9 1924 UNCLE SAM'S NEWEST UNDERSEA TERROR.—The S-47, latest and greatest of American submarines, making its first plunge into the water at the Fore River yards of the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation. The vessel has a cruising radius of 8,000 miles without replenishing fuel and will have a speed of 14 knots an hour on the surface and 12 knots when submerged.
