WOMAN BOUND FOR CATONSVILLE STRIKES BANDIT IN FACE AND SPEEDS ON Courageous Counter-Attack Sent Highwayman Sprawling In The Road When He Leaps Upon Running Board Of Mrs. Charles Plowhorn's Machine. In the community's crime record was listed a holdup, attempted holdup and the death of a highwayman's victim, in addition to the unremitting search for suspects in the Cohen jewel robbery and murder. A woman's courageous counterattack sent a highwayman sprawling in the road when he leaped upon the running-board of an automobile in which Mrs. Charles Plowhorn and COW 'STEALS" NEIGHBOR'S VEGETABLES. When John Oltzman's cow looked over the fence of his yard on the Johnnycake road, Catonsville, and saw Abraham Weiner's vegetables the temptation proved too great. So she vaulted the fence and began to eat. She was still eating when Weiner found her and locked her in the barn. When Oltzman came to claim her Weiner refused to give her up, and Oltzman called the police. The policeman advised a compromise, so Oltzman gave Weiner $1 and Weiner gave Oltzman his cow. One of the four men jumped on the running board and demanded: "Gfive us your money!" Mrs. Plowhorn, with her hand, struck the highwayman full in the face and he fell from the machine. Leo speeded his car and left the bandits behind. The attempted holdup was reported to the Catonsville police. Patrolman Jos. Thornton hurried to the scene, but found no clues. '¦¦-¦-"!A Patrick j. MISS ELIZABETH BOSLEY RETURNS FROM VISIT AT OWINGS MILLS. SMALL NUMBER OF CRIMINAL CASES. > Cambridge, Maine.—" I suffered terribly with pains and soreness in my sides. Each month I had to go to bed, and the doctor told me I simply had to go under an operation before I could get help. I saw your advertisement in the paper, and I told my husband one day to get me a bottle of Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. Before I took the third dose I felt better. I took it four times a day for two years, getting better all the time, and now for four years I don't have any pains. After taking the medicine for two years I had another child—a lovely baby girl now four years old—the life of our home. I do praise this medicine. It is a Godsend to women who suffer with female troubles and especially for pains at the periods. I surely was very bad once, and I know that Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound saved me from an operation." —Mrs. Josie M. Shaw, Route No. 1, Cambridge, Maine. A country-wide canvass of purchasers of Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound reports 98 out of every 100 were benefited by it. For sale by druggists everywhere. The small number of criminal cases before the grand / jury indicates that law and order is being generall observed. The May term of the Circuit Court for Baltimore County was convened on Monday last by Chief Judge T. Scott Offutt and Associate Judges Frank I. Duncan and Walter W. Preston. The grand jury was also drawn, and Douglas Gorman, of the Third District, was selected as foreman. The other members of the grand jury were Gustave T. Dalcour, G. Herbert Rice, James T. French, Samuel T. Sheppard, Ellis E. Haslitt, Harry E. Koller, John K. Chambers, James J. Lindsay, Harry A. Harris, Clarence Wight, Nicholas H. Cockey, Charles Schmidt, Frederick Ei, Geo. Wenig, Frederick Dickman, George Hoffman, Henry Hecker, Elias Robertson, Wm. E. Shunk and Fredk. Sachs. The Petit jurors are: Charles L. Heacock, Augustus H. Brinkman, Noah H. T. Walters, Albert T. Lutt-1 gerding, Raymond A. Duke, Wm. F. Flaggs, Grafton C. Wheeler, Orrick Naylor, John Pearce, Jarrett M. Baker, Luther M. B. Williams, Clark K. McDonald, John T. Burns, Harvey R. Grebb, Frederick W. Schnaufer, Andrew J. Tarbert, Wm. J. Cooper, Clinton C. Holmes, Frank E. Wright, George A. Walter, Stephen J. Knight, John A. Stuart, Frederick L. Helwig, J. Wesley Hughes. In charging the grand jury Chief Judge Offutt said that the small number of cases prepared by the State's Attorney for investigation by the Grand Jury would indicate that law and order was generally observed in the county, but that the court did not feel justified in so stating in view of reports received by it relative to violations of the liquor law and the maintenance of disorderly places. He said that the local liquor has been so emacculated as to give no hope of relief from that source. No matter what may be individual views relative to prohibition laws all good citizens realize that these violations tend to break down the public morale. Judge Offutt declared if the disorderly places only existed as deported this could be regarded as the "training schools for crime." Complaints by the hundreds are pouring into the office of the Commissioners, stating that sheep and chickens are prey to these "invaders." It was stated from an authentic source that all constables will be called to "headquarters" and given explicit instructions to see that all dogs bear the little brass tags on their collars for 1924. The law requiring owners of "pups" to secure license tags is Statewide and local authorities have nothing to do with the measure except to enforce it.
