| vW Uncle Wiggily's Adventures gH^^ZHS^^*'^^" ^MMm^S^ ES Copyriffftt. J9H, by The UcGlure Newspaper Syndicate Trade'Mark Registered Pictured by LANG CAMPBELL 1. "This Is Nurse Jane's birthday," said Uncle Wiggily to Mr. Twistytail, one morning. "1 have bought her a fine present." The pig gentleman looked at the diamond bracelet the rabbit had bought for his muskrat lady housekeeper. "1 must also get Nurse Jane a present," said Mr. Twistytail. "Do," said the bunny, "and we'll have a party." The two piggie boys whispered: "We'll go to that party!" 2. "What sort of a present can we take to Nurse Jane on her birthday, so she will invite us to the party?" asked Curly of Floppy. "We haven't any money to buy diamond bracelets," grunted Floppy. "So let's take her some flowers." The boys picked some blossoms in the fields. "Happy birthday!" they called to Nurse Jane as she opened the door. "Oh, how sweet of you! 1 must give you some cake!" she said. 3. Nurse Jane gave the piggie boys some cake for her birthday flowers, and when Curly and Floppy went off in the woods to have a little picnic they saw Jackie and Peetie Bow Wow. "Oh, where'd you get the cake?" barked Jackie. "Nurse Jane gave it to us," squealed Floppy. "She'll give you some, too, if you take her a birthday present " Oh, let's do it!" whined Peetie to his brother. "I'm hungry!" 4. While Curly and Floppy ate the cake Nurse Jang had given them, Jackie and Peetie ran off to the woods to gather each a bouquet of flowers. The doggie boys were on their way to Uncle Wiggily's hollow stump bungalow when out popped the Bob Cat and the Fox. "Why all the flowers?" mewed the Bob Cat. "It's Nurse Jane's birthday," answered Peetie. "If we take them to her she'll give us some cake." 5. The Fox looked at the Bob Cat and the Bob Cat looked at the Fox. "Let's grab these flowers away from Jackie and Peetie, and give them to Nurse Jane ourselves," whispered the Fox. "She won't take them, knowing who we are," spoke the Bob Cat. "No!" growled the Fox. "We'll put on Jackie's and Peetie's clothes and she'll think we're them. Then she'll give us cake and we'll also catch Uncle Wiggily." 6. Mr. Twistytail bought Nurse Jane a new hat for her birthday, and he and the rabbit gentleman were on their way through the woods to Uncle Wiggily's hollow stump bungalow, when Mr. Twistytail grunted "There go Jackie and Peetie Bow Wow!" Uncle Wiggily took a gooc look. "No," he said, "those aren't the doggie boys. The Fox ana Wolf are dressed in their clothes. There is some trick going on here!" 7. "What had we better do ?" grunted Mr. Twistytail. "Shall I run back and get the Police Dog?" Uncle Wiggily twinkled his pink nose and said: "No, we'll run on ahead, take a short cut and hide in tha bushes. When the Fox and Bob Cat come along we'll jump out and scare them." Off the two friends ran through the forest. "Bing-bung'" All of a sudden the pig fell down. "Hop up!" cried the bunny. 8. After many groans and grunts, Mr. Twistytail at last scrambled to his feet and ran along after Uncle Wiggily. The rabbit reached a big rock along the path to his hollow stump bungalow. "The Fox and Bob Oat will have to come past here," said Uncle Wiggily. "We'll hide here and, when they come we'll jump out at them." Mr Twistytail said: "I'll do more than that! I'll jump on them! Wul'i! ' Wug'" i^r^ S-2S-24- 9. All of a sudden Uncle Wiggily whispered: "Here they come! They thought to fool Nurse Jane on her birthday, but we'll play a trick on the bad chaps!" Just then the Fox and Bob Cat, laughing aver their trick, walked around the corner of the rock. "Out and at them!" shouted Uncle Wiggily. The bad chaps were taken so by surprise that they were completely upset. And the doggies got their clothes back. And if the tooth brush doesn't try to take its bath in the ink bottle when it ought to go out walking with the gold nab, the next pictures and story will be about UNCLE WIGGILY AND THE JUNE BUG. ^¦^¦^sy^i^^iyi^aiia^^pr.- © Maryland State Archives mdsa_sc3410_i_81-1016.jpg |
