Mr. de Vt-rgennes, in ordering a refusal to
tell to wliom the said million was syven, and
in causing it to i,e declaiea m 178o', that it
¦W3S inconvenient to trfl, proves equally
that it was a secret; and that tli| said milli-

New-York Gazette, by the brig Emetine,
from Bordeaux.
Naples, Dec. 3.
The English had '¦ made a fresh landing >
of between ¦ two and three thousand men
i;.ear Scilla (Straights of Messina.) 'Gen.
Reignier having set off from Palma, defeat-
ed them completely, and forced the wreck
of these troops to -rerombark with precipi-
tation. Another landing of a corps of the
enemy neaily of the same force, was effect-
ed near Capri, but with as little success ;
major Guys, of the Cotsican legion, at the
head of the moveable column which he
commands., and seconded, by the inhabit-
ants, cut them to pieces near Camarota.
Bamberg, November 21.
We have just learnt the intelligence that
Bveslaw, the capital of Prussian Silesia, has
surrendered to the victorious arms of the
emperor Napokon. Immense stores of all
kinds have been found there. This town
contains 60,000 inhabitants, without rec-
koning the garrison. It has sustained se-
veral sieges, and among others, one in
1761, in which general Zanentzien defend-
ed this fortress with so much vigor, that he
forced the Austrian troops, commanded by
the famous gen. Lauduhn, to relinquish the
enterprize.
Hamburg, Dec. 17.
Letters from Sweden mention that col.
Moriau, commander in chief of the Swe-
dish troops who were in the Lunenburg, a
part of whom had been made prisoners of
¦war at Lubeck, has been sentenced to death
by a council of war. It is added, that his
Swedish majesty has confirmed the sen-
tence.
Warsaw, December 5.
The following is a succinct account of
the events which have taken place in this
city ; from the end of November to the 6th
of the present month. On the 271T1 Nov.
the Prussian troops informed of the approach
of -the j?>-Mteh evacuated Warsaw, at eight
at night crossed the Vistula, and repaired to
Praga. The Russians followed them at 11
o'clock the same night. The 28th at 3
o'clock in the morning, the bridge upon the
Vistula was all in a bla/.e ; it burnt until 8
o'clock ; the part of the bridge next the
suburbs of Praga, is the most damaged'.
The same day, at 6 o'clock in the evening,
general Milhand, at the bead of a corps of
cavalry, entsred the town and was received
with the acclamations of an immense con-
course. All the houses were, illuminated.
,His Prussian majesty repaired on the 24th
Nov. to Pultusk, the head-quarters of the
Russian army commanded by gen. Benning-
sen. He was attended by two of his adju-
tants, Messrs de Korkrilz and de Kliest.
The king reviewed the Russians, deliver-
ed to general Benningsen the command of
Ins own troops, and afterwards set out for
Konigsburg where the queen was still re-
maining. The Russians having no money,
his majesty assigned them ioc>,000 ducats
upon the royal, chest of Konigsburg. It
was on the 3d Dec. at 3 o'clock in the morn-
ing, that the Prussians evacuated Praga.
They had no other troops there than Gooo
cavalry.
London, December 8.
The suspension which has occurred in
.the ncgociation carrying on here with the
American ministers, arises, it is 6aid, from
the latter conceiving it necessary to receive
further instructions from their government
on some points which have been brought
into discussion.
An eminent surgeon having been lately
sent for to attend a maniac gentleman, the
latter, as the surgeon was entering the room,
discharged a pistol at him, loaded with a
brace of bullets, which lodged in the door.
Upon the percipitate retreat of the surgeon,
the gentleman ran down stairs, plunged in-
to a horse pond, and was perfectly restored
to his reason by the cold bath.

Burr, with about 7 boats, and from-70 to
IOO men, is now on the Mississippi river,
50 miles above Natchez, where he will re-
main until the balance of his boats arrive—
an attempt has been made by the sheriff to
take him, with a small party, but without
success—to-morrow the sheriff with the
posse comitatus will again make an attempt
—the executive has issued orders to the mili-
tia, and the territory isin motion—but from
the number coming down the river to join
Burr, & the disposition of-many of the inha-
bitants of the territory to not molest him,
I am apprehensive that he will pass the
country tvithout being taken. He declares
his, views are .not inimical to the govern-
ment of the United States, but that he in-
tends to take Baton Rouge, and operate
entirely against, the Spaniards, and add a
brighter star in the American government
than ornaments its present brilliancy." .
