M.) in the short distance lie could see, counted I I ships with- out a mast or bowspirt standing. Passing the South Foreland, saw one ship sua', and 5 ashore on Deal Beach. March 21, got into Dover, and found that out of the whole fleet of shipping which were at anchor when the gale commenced, but 24 (men of war included) rode out the gale ; i5 sail were lost between Deal town and the South Fore- land ; a number of the dismasted ships drift- ed over on the coast of France, and were wrecked.
