RICHMOND, July 18. W« are authorised to state, that in conse- guenoe of information received that the Bri- tish sanKflron had departed from Hampton Roads, and had caken a station off our Capes, the Executive have suspended the march to ¦t-jn of tiie .TOO militia ordered out from Gen. VV hite's brigade. They have been per- mitted to return to their respective homes, •v i-th orders to hold themselves in readiness to take the held at a moment's warning. The two companies of infantry, and the troop of Cavalry already stationed at Hamp- ton, will be continued. We are moreover authorised to state, that in consequence of tjie above information, and of positive assur- ances from General Mathews, tiiat the militia already called into service from his brigade, aided by the cavalry from Petersburg and Richmond, will be amply sufficient to repel any attack that can be made by any force ¦wi'iich can be spared from the Btitish squa- dron ; the infantry from Petersburg and this place will be immediately discharged ; major Ambler, under whose commaHd they march ed to Norfolk, is authorised to charter one or more vessels for the use of such of them as mavthinfc proper to avail themsselves of that mode of conveyance. All theotlierforr.es now under tiie command of General Mathews at Norfolk, will be continued until more sub stantial evidence is obtained of a change of disposition on the part of the British squa tlron. Those forces, together with the troops stationed at Hampton, will occasionally be relieved at short periods by other detach- ments of militia. Examples of Patriotism. Tiie portion of militia from Hanover and ¦Hemic", which was cullud out in part of the detachment of 500 men from Gen. White's brigade, intended to march to Hampton, con- sisting almost entirely of volunteers, assem bled ami organized with remarkable pronip titude. A 'considerable part arrived at tins place on Tuesday last, and the balance on the ixext day. On Thursday the necessity of their proceeding t0 tlie Piace °f t'u'ir ^iSt' nation, at present, having ceased, they were permuted to return home until further or ders, and directed to receive two day's rati- oiu, and p.ay for five days. They were also presented with the thanks of the executive, for their patriotic zeal. We are informed the inteUiK«nce of a postponement of their tinuch was'received by them with great re- jjret ; every man displayed the utmost anxi- ety to distinguish himself in the service of his country. In consequence of the absence ot so many of the inhabitants of Richmond, on the ex- pedition to Norfolk (by which it was sup posed the safety of this place was diminish td) a number of public spirited crtraensfhave formed themselves into an association for the defence of the City, and raised a large and most respectable trocp of cavalry, of ¦which Ed-ward Carringfln is captain, Wm. Dahin',' 1st lieutenant, Thomas Taylor, 2d lieutenant, and Jekyll Jones, cornet. They voluntarily subject themselves to severe mi Jitary duty, in which taey e: hir.it .a-TV con- siderable skill, and every night- p.itvele the Streets. The executive, by Virtue of a power ¦vested in'them bylaw, had previously ap pointed a small guard of sixteen men to Serve the purpose of a patrole ; but have since discontinued it.relyir.g on the vigilance of the patriotic association of cavalry, who do indeed deserve well of their country.
