JOHN WOODEN, of John, Treu August II. 2*lwl»w8t|| SHIP OTHELLO. In our statement last evening of this case, supposed cause of offence is found, by the gentleman whose pditenes enabled us to ! present that intelligence-. We are sensible of no material error being in that statement. , We are informed that the French ship of ' war in question, is the Patriot, and not i the Cybclle; but this is immaterial. It was j understood at the time he made the inqui- ries, that the editor of the Federal Gazette j would make public the information impart- ed. This was expressly stated by the triend, thro' whom we obtained the interview, and in whose presence the conversation was held. We are not less anxious than others, that the investigation ordered by the French am- bassador may result in the perfect innocence of the officers and crew of the Patriot. We advanced no opinion on this subject, ex- cept the one founded on the declaration of the privateersmen ; and in this we stand not alone. Further remark is deemed unnecessary, until we see an authorised statement dif- ferent from our own ; or until some further account is received from the Bay. Captain Comegys has o-nne down with ti.e instructions from Gen. Turreau. The cap- tains Sterret, with their two companies, have gone in pursuit ot the plunderer, in an armed schooner, under the command of Captain Porter, lately returned from the Mediterranean. BURR'S TRIAL- We have republished, from the " Enqui- rer," the whole of the proceedings in this interesting case, as far as that paper has given them, except what is contained in the last number, received to.day. Nothing of importance had cccurred at the last date. On Saturday the 22d Mr. Blanner'.iaSuett appeared ift court. Mr.- Botts suggested that there was a misnomer in the indictment, and requested that th arraignment be put off) which was granted. We shall proceed to- morrow with the detail, as given in the Enquirer. Lloyd's list jfuly 3. The American ship Jane, Hugell, is de- tained by the Lion privateer, and the George Washington, from Philadepphr a to Bordeaux, is detained by sir R. Strachan's squadron, and sent into Plymouth. The Little Catharine, from Bengal, which was detained and sent into Plymouth, sailed from thence 1st. inst. for Copenha- gen, having been liberated. At Londonderry, Abigail, Berry, New- Ycvk. At Cherburg. Emanuel. America ; Speculation, New-Orleans. At Rottcidam. Mary. Sbutbwick", Boston. At Copenha- gen, Byfitld, Foster, Boston. Ar Ton- ningen, John, Lonng New.York ; Sally, flail, Philadelphia ; Johanna, Prince, R. Island. Captain Pike, with his men, arrived at Natchitoches on the 30th June—they were taken by the Spaniards and detained some months in the Mexican dominions. All their papers, Sec- taken from them. [Washington Federalist."] Died suddenly, near Westminster town, on Monday last, in the sixty-second year of his age, Mr. Danil Zacjiarias, sen.— A man much esteemed and respected in life by all wiio had the pleasure ol knowing htm. By the ship Amiable, Rinker, belong- ing to this port and ship Ann, Alexander. from London, both arrived at New-York yesterday morning, we have received iur regular files of Loudon Gazettes down to the 5th July, being two days later than our former accounts. Theoe papers contain nothing recent from the continent. In Kb,, land, the baitle of Friedland is not considered to have been so disastrous to the allied forces, as is reo.e- sented by the French papers.—If the victory had been so signally decisive, Boniparte ¦would certainly have f.lloued up his suc- cess by an instat»ta»eous movement towards Kontgsburgh. From all the accounts, how- ever, this piace remained 111 the possession of the Russians, who, it appears weie still in a situation to oetend it.—The retreat of the Russians is stated t > have been executed with perfect order ; and may possibly have the effect of leading the Fiench tnto a most disadvantageous position.
