A new Museum is open at No. 6, Water- street, which the proprietor intends as a per- martent establishment under the title of (lie " Baltimore Mutium," and respectfully solicits the patreiiage and liberality of the citizens ami otiiers to aid him in the design of rendering this institution inferior to no other in the Unit- ed Stales. The assistance of the curious, either by vi- sits, donations or deposits is, at this time par- ticularly impoi taut, as the institution )s (en- tirely new, and must fur some time labor un- der all those difficulties and disadvantages to which such establishments are liable. The present collactioa of articles is very neat and daily increasing. The terms are two dollars for a year, or25 cent* aduiiaiu.ee. I. be it enacted and ordained by the Mayor and City Council 0/ Baltimore, That the mayor be, and he is hereby authorised and required to pro-ure correct and a> rurMe standards of all weights and nieas ,n s established by law for Baltimore county,and the s.ime to have aaj< st ed whenever necessary ; and three persons be appointed within the city, keepers of the said standards, whosi* duty it shall be s.d'ely to keep and preserve lie same, and to perform the se- veral d ilies pi\ scribed by this or any oilier or- dinance ot this corporation re-.peeling weights •in I measures, who before they enter upon the duties of their appointment, shell give bond to the major and c.ty council of Baltimore, in the penal sum ol one ihou sand dollars, conditioned lor the faithful discharge of all the duties ap- pertaining to their office : and ore of the said keepers shall be the keeper of the standards of weigius, notoer the keeper of the stand- ards of liquid; measures, and the third, the keeper 01 the standards of dry and long mea- sures. And be itenae'ed and ordained, That -with- in three months tXxfii the said standards are procured, and the keeper* appoined, of which the mayor shsll cause notice to be given in tile several newspapers of tha city, ail weights and measures used wilhin the city or precincts of Baltimore, in (he vending of articles, shall |jfe regulated and adjusted by the said standard keepers, under a penalty not exceeding twen- ty dollars, to he paid by the person or persons owning 01' using the same, and when adjusted, shall be by the said standard keepers branded or stamped with the letters B S. meaning thereby Baltimore Standard, in such manner and on such parts of the said weights and mea- sni-es as in his judgment shall be most lasting and effectual in preventing and detecting frau- dulent practices or impositions in the use of such weights or measures. Asd the lite exami- nation and adjustment shall be repeated once in each year, and tne branding or stamping¦ t mewed when necessary, under apenuttyi.ot exceeding twen- ty dollars. VII. And be it enacted and ordained. That all scale beams used in the vending of articles in the city of Baltimore, or the precincts thereof, shall be adjusted and stamped by the keeper of the standard of weights, as weights are di- rected to be stamped ; and any person using scale beams in the city or precincts, not ad- justed and stamped as herein directed, shall forfeit and pay a sum not exceeding twenty dol - lars,JI'or each and every offence ; an«i the said standard keeper shall be entitled to receive as acompen3ation for every scale beam, not ex- ceeding eighteen inches, twelve and a half cents; for every scale beam above eighteen in- ches and not exceeding thirty six inches, eighteen and three quarter cents ; and for eve- ry scale beam above thirty-six inches, twenty- five cents, to be paid by the persons for whom the same shall be adjusted as aforesaid. VIII. And be it enacted and ordained, That all hues and forfeitures incurred under this or- dinance, sballbe applied the one half 1.0 the in- former. Oct. 9.
