II. And he it enac ed and ordained. That with- in three months after the said standards are procured, and the keepers appoiaed, of which the mayor shall cause notice to be given in the several newspapers of th« city, all weights and measures usnd within the city or precincts of Baltimore, in the vending of articles, shall be regulated and adjusted by the said standard keepers, under a penalty not exceeding twen- ty dollars, to be paid b the person or persons owning or using the same, and when adjusted, shall be by the said standard keepers branded or stamped with the letters B S. meaning thereby Baltimore Standard, in such manner and on such parts of the sa d weights and mea- sures as in his judgment shall be must lasting and effectual in preventing and detecting frau- dulent practices or impositions in the use of such^weights or measuvas. And the lite exami- nation and adjustment shall be repeated once'in each year, and the branding or stamping icneixed •when necessary, under apenaltynot exceeding twen- ty dollars. VII. And be it enacted and ordained, That all scale beams used in the vending of articles in the city of Baltimore, or the precincts thereof, shall be adjusted and stamped by the keeper o the standard of weights, as weights are. di- rected to be stamped j and anv person using scale beams in the city or precincts, not ad- justed and stamped as h'-rein directed, shall forfeit and pay a sum notexceeding twenty dol- lars, jtor each and every offence j aiu. tbe said Standard keeper shall be endued to receive as a compensation tor ever> scale beam, not ex- ceeding eighteen inches, twelve and a half cents ; for every scale beam above eighteen in- ches and not exceeding thirty six inches, eighteen and three quarter cents ; and for eve- ry scale beam above thirty-six inches, twenty- five cents, to be paid b\ tbe persons tor whom the same shall be adjusted as aforesaid* VIII.
