with the following ct of the incorporation,
such weights and beans as have been in use
forthe past year,or others that may be required
to be adjusted and stamped.

I ae it enacted and ordained by the Mayor and
City Council oj Uaitimi.re, That the mayor be,
and im i9 hereby authorised and required lo
procure correct and accurate standards of all
weights and ineas ires established by law for
iialtimore county, and the same lo have adjust
ed whenever neocssary ; and three persons be
appointed wiihiu the city, keepers of the said
standards, whose duty it shah be saf«ly to keep
and preserve tue same, and to perform the se-
veral d.ties prescribed by tins or any other or-
dinance of mis corporation respecting weight J
ami measures, who before they enter upon the
duties of their appointment, shall give bond to
the mayor and city council of Baltimore, in the
ptnal sun oi one thousand dollars, conditioned
tor the faithful discharge oj ad the uiies ap-
pertaining tu their office : and one of the said
ke; pers shall be the keeper of the standards
of weigtus, an at er the keeper of the stand-
ards of liquid measures, and the third, the
keeper oi the standards of dry and long mea-
sures.

in three months after the said standards are
procured, and the keepers appoiued, of which
tht mayor shall cause notice to be given in the
several newspapers of the city, all weights
and measures used within the city or precincts
ot iialtimore, in >he vensljug-of articles, shall
be regu ated a ,U adju/fltby'the said standard
keepers, under a pe,"!h^n6t exceeding twen-
ty dollars, to be paid b the person or persons
owning or using the same, and when adjusted,
shall be by the said standard keepers brain eo
or stamped with the letters B S. meaning
thereby Baltimore Standard, in such manner
and. on such parts of the sa d weights and tnea-
sures as in his judgment shall be most lasting
and effectual irt preventing and detecting frau-
dulent practices or impositions in the use of
such weights or masures And the tike exami-
nation ana adjnstn ent shall be repeated once in
each year, and tne branding or stamping renewed
when necessary, un^er a penalty not exceeding twen-
ty dollars.
VII. And be it enacted and ordained, That all
scale beams used in the vending of articles in
the city of Baltimore, or the precincts thereof,
shall be adjusted and stamped by the keeper
o the standard of weights, as weights are di-
rected to be stamped ; and any person using
scale beams in the city or precincts, not ad-
justed and stamped as h -rein directed, shall
forfeit and pay a siim not exceeding twenty dol
lars„for each and every nftMt e j an^ the said
standard keepershall be entitled to receive as
a compensation for every scale beam, not ex-
ceeding eighteen inches, twelve and a half
cents ; for every scale beam above eighteen in-
ches and not exceeding thirty six inches,
eighteen and three quarter cent's ; and for eve-
ry scale beam above thirty-six inches, twenty-
five cents, to be paid by the persons for whom
tha same shall be adjusted as aforesaid.
VIII. And be it enacted and ordained, That
all tines and forfeitures incurred under this or-
dinance, shallbe applied the one half to the in-
