FEDERAL GAZETTE.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 26.
HO ADS. Our readers will discover an
interesting; essay under the Philadelphia
head, on the subject of Internal Improve-
ments. The wisdom and patriotism oT our
Legislature and our Citizens, will check
the proud Pennsylvanians, in their incessant
endeavours to wrest from this city that va-
luable WESTER•¦¦ TRADE to Which our
geographical situation entitles us.
TYPOGRAPHICAL ERRORS,
In daily prints, (in the execution of which
rapidity -of motion is essentia!,) may be ex-
pected. We not unfrequently have to re-
gret their appearance in the Gazette. We
perceive in Thursday's American a great
mistake, which ought to be corrected ; and
as that paper cannot attain appear before next
Monday, we will point it out. In the pre-
sident's communication to congress is one
important passage, which some people think
explanatory of the cause of the embargo, and
which unfortunately does not appear in the
American. The sentence follows :
I ask a return of the letters of Messrs.
ARMSTRONG and CHA.MPAG.NY, winch
it would be improper to make public.
Mr. R. Nelson made some remarks in re-
ply to Mr. Clay ; and observed, that as to
the, publications in the paper called " The
Whig,'' he would only say, that if any mis-
understanding had taken j.lace between the
editor of that paper and the committee of
elections, in the name oi God,let them settle
it among themselves,
After some further discn.sion, the ques-
tion was taken by ayes and noes on Mr.
Randolph's amendment (declaring that Win,
MacCreery was duly elected according to
the laws ot Maryland) aiid it Was lost, ayes
8, noes 92.
The question was then taken by ayes &
noes on agreeing to the resolution as follows.
'• Resolved, that William M'Crcery is en-
titled to his seat in this hou?e" AND IT
WAS AGREED TO, ayes 89, noes 18.
A message was received from the senate,
notifying that they had passed a bill supple-
mentary to the act fixing the military peace
establishment of the U. S. in which they
desired the concurrence of the house. This
bill authorises the president to raise, in ad-
dition to those already laised) I regiment ot
infantry, I battallion of cavalry and one ba-
talion of riflemen. Referred to the com-
mittee of the whole on Monday.
Mr. Gardner moved, that when the house
adjourn, they adjourn till Monday next,
which was carried, ayes 67, .noes 20.
The house went into a committee of the
whole on the bill for the relief of Anthony
Beaucharie. They were occupied with it
only a few minutecs, when a motion was
was made and carried, that the committee
of the whole rise, report progress and ask
leave to set again:
The house then adjourned (2 o'clock.)
Mr. D. Montgomery obtained leavs of ab-
sence for ten days from Monday last.
