It is one, on which I have long and deeply meditated, and my religious opinions are now fixed, probably to change no more. For myself, I have formed a system, not an austere one indeed, and which some perhaps might think a very relaxed one, but which I would humbly hope embraces with the strongest and deepest conviction the great and all-important truth "that the only basis either of our present or future happiness, is a firm and unshaken belief in the mission, and an unremitted course of practical obedience to the Gospel of our ever-blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ".
