222 I courts as the congress may, from time to time or- dain and establish. The judges, both of the sup eme and inferior courts, shall hold their offices during ood behaviour ; and shall, at stated times, receive ,or their services a compensation, which shall not j be diminished during their continuance in office. i SECTION II. M I The judicial power shall extend to all cases in law and equity, arising under this constitution, the | j laws of the United States, and treaties made, or which shallbe made, under their authority ; to all cases affecting ambassadors, other public minister?, and consuls ; to all cases of admiralty and mari- time jurisdiction ; to cont oversies to which the United States shall be a party, to cont oversies be- iween two or more states, between a state and eiti- t sens of another state, between citizens of different c etween r lands under grants of different states, and b®twe< a state, or the ctizens thereof and foreign states, | f citizens, or subjects. II. In all cases, affecting ambassadors, other  public ministers and consuls, and those in which a | state shall be a party, the supreme court shall have original jurisdiction. I" al the other cases before mentioned, the supreme court shall have appellate jurisdiction, both as to law and fa t, with such ex- ceptions, and under such regulations, as the con- gress shall make. III. The trial of all crimes, except in cases of impeachment, shall be by jury, and such trial shall be held in the state where the said crimes shall have been committed ; but when not committed withm j any state, the trial shall beat such place or plages a8 the congress ma> by ;aw have directed. f a i h s
