Instead of going to the archives, today I remained at Hopkins to place orders for more microfilm and to make tif files of images for David. I also searched for more info on Washington DC. I took out two books on Dr. Papenfuse's card:
Ambitious Appetites by Barbara C. Carson which contains descriptions of dining, behavior, and patterns of consumption in Federal Washington. Secondary Source list might prove helpful in tracking down women.
Through a Fiery Trial by Bob Arnebeck. Need to search secondary notes to find papers I should search at the Library of Congress. I need to start organizing a trip to D.C. I need to go to the Columbia Historical Society and the LIbrary of Congress to find more info about the WOMEN, although the focus of the paper is really the interaction between men and women.
I also found out that there is an 1822 City Directory for Washington D.C. at the Garrett Library. I should do a general search to see what is the earliest date. I tend to suspect that BEale was a gentleman because it never lists an occupation for him in the LR in BA (as it does for the other parties involved ie bricklayer/ merchant). I know the family returned there in 1801. I need to piece Isabella's life together there. I also need to check the local papers. Supposedly Hopkins has a shuttle to the library of Congress. This will help with expenses.
