Tueday 1: Mr W. walked to Georgetown . Dr T went to the office. Mr Harrison called, while he was here Dr T came, he was on horsebackon his way to wait on Mr Woleold. (Secreatray of Treasure) MR Harrison rode with him. Mr Tracy was gone. In the evening took a walk. Mrs asnd Miss Powers stopped at the door a few minutes. Dr T & Mr W sat up very late.

Wed 2 Moderate: Boy came from farm with fruit&c. Daniel came down for medical advice. Dr T gave him some medecines & he went back. Sent to invite Mrs Tingleyy, Townsend, Johnsons, Harrison, and Gauld to tea this afternoon. Mr. Law was called, requested him to ask Mrs LAw to come. Dr T rode down to Tunnicliff's. Mail came in at five oclock Mrs Tingley and Tousand & Johnsons came to tea the otehr ladies were engaged. Col Tousand had hurt his knee & could not come, Capt Tingley & Mr Marshall were engaged. Mr Dexter came. Mr Johnson & son came. After tea I played for them- I had a head ache and am afraid they all felt dull. (Illeg) drinking is very stupid. All went to bed about ten oclock.

Thurs 3 very pleasant. Dr T rose early to go to georgetown to the Bank, respecting the note he gave Mess Lloyd Buchman & Stone is in town. Dr T wrote note to MR Cooke in Baltimmore & MR JT MAson. He went (illeg) just before dinner to see MR STone. SEnt Joe with the Medley & sorrel mare to MR Jones. BRought down in the evening from our farm the carriage mare with a little filly, she went up there on (illeg) alone and foaled there. Mama wrote to MR Mackenzie inclosed a to his father in law. Letters from Maj Rivardi and Mr Blodget. Cloudy evening. Received an invitation from Mr Covrachi's to a fish feast at the (illeg) fields but declined, the gentleman being engaged to Mrs LEwis.

Friday 4th Cloudy Showers A very dull 4th of July. The gentleman went to MR LAws to dinner-they returned a little after dark- a large party there.

Sat 5th very warm. Iris went away today. Mr Weinstaley's boxes came. They contained an original likeness of GEnl Washington by Stewart. a small full lengthe copied by Mr W from one of Stewarts & several copies of the Bust by WW also 3 water color lanscapes by a french paineter (NOSE) and a good many prints. Stewarts original is very like but not an agreeable likeness. MR Polock called to get a deed acknowledged, mentioned that they had a very agreeable party yesterday at the little falls. Engaged almost all the day in admiring the paintings & etc. Mr and Mrs BRent called in the evening.

Sun 6th VEry hot Therm 88. Seeking among MR Ws prints for a mtach to one of Dr Ts which I wish to frame and could not find one. MRs Knapp called to invite us to tea tomorrow. I begged hger to come over to tea with MRs Munroes family this afternoon. Dr T and Mr Weinstanley engagin in reading a manuscript of Mrs W's. Dressed before dinner MR Munroe and 7C sent rod they could not come.

Monday 7th: VERy hot. oppresive. THerm 92 in our entry.Began to copy a figure from one of MR W's prints. He went to town in a hack. Returned to dinner. Mrs Gauld sent word she would drink tea with us. but we were engaged. MR LAw came in the afternoon . Mr Winzell called too. Bttween seven & eight oclock we walked to Mrs Knapps too hot to go sooner. found there MR & MRs Tingley Mr Dexter and Miss Burns. MR Knapp did not come home ti;; late. He played on the guitar & Miss BUrns sang. I also played one time. Mr & MRs Tousard did not come (her sister Mrs Gillaspie) having jsut arrived from Phildealphia. We all walked to their lodgings and a little while & then came home. One of the hottests days I have ever felt hereSent Joe to the farm to fetch down anything they might have to send. Moon shone very brightly. sat at the door very late. Dr T got a letter from MR Cooke in Baltimore.

Tues. 8th Very hot.Sent to invite MR Gantts, Chandler &etc to tea. Mrs Harrisomn returned our basket. Drawing in the morning. Dr T at the offie read in the afternooon till Mr and MRs Ray came- then Mrs Munroe, Whetecroft& King. MRs GAntt came just as there was the appearance of a heavy gust (illeg) and Mrs Knapp there was a good deal of wind a very little rain and a great deal of fine lightning without any violent thunder. It made the evening more agreeable but was hot again aferwards. Drt T got a letter from MR MAckenzie a very hot night and a very unpleasant one.

Wed 9th VEry warm good deal of air Ther 86 Dr T and Mr Winstantley went out together. Mr W returned soon. Dr T came to dinner They nailed the linen on the board ready to prime. In the evening they walked over to Mr Munroes Nothing particular happened today.

Thursday 10th. VEry hot. Mr W began to prepare his canvas to take a likeness of my husband and primed twice over & then painted with a lead color paint. This is the manner in which Stewart prepares it. MR Forrest dined with us Dr T bespoke two straining frames of Mr Stevens on Mr David & Mr William Brent called. Mr & MRs & Miss Stoddert came while we were at tea. a very hot evening. I played a ltitle. THey sat some time. Mr Forrest called again in the evening. Dr T gpr a letter from Mr Maury mentioning that he had sent our things some time a ago & enclosing a price cuurent.

Friday 11th VEry warm High wind in the night & all day Therm 88. MR W preprared his paints and began Dr T's likeness. I was at work all morning. Mr Forrest called in the afternoon. Mr Pollock's was here in the morning as he came to borrowour wagon. Dr T wrote a note to the farm to go by one of Mr Polocks people desiring the manager to secure the grain hay as there is an appearance of rain. The nights are very hot as well as the days.

Saturday 12 We rose late to day. Mr LAw & Robt Brent called before we had breakfasted. As soon as they were gone Mr W went to painting. In the evening Dr T& I went to MR Johnsons found there Dr & Miss Worthington & Mr Wm Lee just as we reached there a violent gust commenced, & continued for some time which prevented some of the expected conpany from coming, and others came at eight oclock. We came home between ten and eleven.

Sunday 13 Pleasant. Boy came from the farm with vegetables &c Mr Winstaley painted I read. In the afternoon we rode to Mr Ray's drank tea there. Capt Kirkland one of the late Army (now disbanded) was there. When we came home found a note left by Major Foreman mentioning that he wished to see Dr T at the tavern in GeorgeTown in the morning & that his mare was with him.

Monday 14th Dr T rose early and went to see Maj Foreman-invited him and his niece to come here. Thye came about eleven oclock. Miss Chambers is a pretty and agreeable young lady. Maj Foreman went away and returned to dinner. it rained all the morning. so that we can not go out. after dinner we ordered the carriage & it was getting ready we walked to the Presidents House, we returned and all but Mama went to thje Capitol when we came home found Maj Thornton & Mrs T who had just arrived from Shepherd;s Town & on their way to Mr Fitzhughs He was to aid to Genl Pickney & (illeg) in his family- & is now out of e,mployment in consequence of the disbandment of the army. they went to MR Laws to stay all night. They had seen them previous to their coming here. Our carriage was brought to take Miss Chambers to the tavern but Dr T had induced her uncle to stay longer than he intended , we invited her to stay here which she accepted. BUt we could not accomodate Maj For as Mr W has a room. As the carriage was at the door Miss C and I went to see Mrs Tousard with whose family Miss C was acquainted it was dark before we got home again & rained afterwards. Major F went on one of our horses to Georgetown.

Tueday 15th Warm. SEnt in the mornign to invitye MRs Tousard abnd Tinglsey to tea this afternoon. Mrs Tingsley was engaged & Mrs Tousard not at home. We took for granted that she had gone to her sisters Miss Chambers and I determinde to walk to see tMR/MRS (illeg). expecting to ride back with Mrs Tousard. but after we set out we found it too warm to walk so far. I saw that Col Tousand was at the office and I sent word to tell Mrs Tousard etc to tea. he sent word he would call. Maj Foreman and Mr WAymann called also Mr Cavacchi MR Tousard called about seven oclock to tell us that Mrs Tousard was engaged to dine with MRs LAw.She would not come to tea but would call in the evening. In the evening we all but Mama rode down to Mr Barrys. Went round by MR Simmons where the Gentleman stopped. We left them they walked to MR Barrys and RMs and Miss Barrys & etc & a gentleman from Baltimore Mr Calhoun (they invited us to stay tea/but we declined) to return. Stopped at Mr LAws door a few minutes saw MRs LAw- MR Calhoun was on horseback and overtook us. Dr T asked him in but he was in a hurry. We drank tea. Mrs W & I played. Went to bed about ten. Dr T MW sat up late.

Wednesday 16th Cloudy Cool. After rbeakfast Dr T went to Georgetown to accompany Maj Foreman to our farm. Miss C Mr W & I walked to George Town, met a hack desired them to come to Dorseys at twelve oclock. We went shopping then to Mrs Dorseys. on our return called Miss Gillepsie. About five oclock we were preparing to take a walk when Dr T & Mr Dexter came in- MR Forrest came also after tea Mama, Miss G, I and Mr Forrest walked to MR Tayloes house as we returned met Mr Dexter going home. Went to bed about ten oclock.

Thursday 17 Pleasant. Rose early as Maj Foreman sent miss Chambers word to be ready to go in the stage but he came with Mr Wayman just after breakfast & said he was going to Genl Forrests to dinner and should certainly set off tomorrow. We went to a store near us- Major F followed us there saw me looking at teapots, which I did altogether not like, but he thought I wanthed them purchased $5 worth ordered them here, this he did after I left the store I did not wish to accept them but he would not be refuesed. Dr T went to Georgetown at twelve oclock returned to dinner invited MR Polack to come and join Genl Stone whom he had asked yesterday. They came a little after two. I played a little for them. They went early. We were intending to take a walk when Mr and MRs Tousand, Miss Gillepsie, & Dr Buttard (?) came in. THey drank tea & went soon . we then took a little walk. Dr T got a letter from Mr Gantt in George Town.

Friday 18 Dr T rose early. went to GEorgetown. returned before any of us were up, to tell Miss Chambers the Stawe was (waiting?) for her. we gave some milk & biscuit for her as it was too soon to get breakfast. I got Dr T to offer Major Foremon the money for the teapots but he would not take it. Mr Vaughan from Philadelphia came to rbeakfast. Dt T went to the office but MR Scott was not there, returned and went to the Capitol with Mr Vaughan. Dr T returned soon, quite unwell with the heat. Mr Vaughan came to dinner.
