1. Historiography: During the intercession I tried to read every article I could about women in the early republic. The chapter I previosuly wrote reflects little of abundant literature on the topic. By going through all the journals I could find at Hopkins looking for articles about women, I had much more success than subject and key title searches which proved LARGELY ineffective.
I think I should write a few pages about what previous historians have done with the subject matter. I think I need to address not only historiography about "Republican Women" but also about histories concerning early Washington DC.
2. Demphasize my earlier statements concerning pre-revolutioanry women's relegation to the home. I think I shoudl minimize the distance between Elizabeth and Isabella's contrinutions to their families in regards to financial matters but I should remark on the marked contrasts in how they discursively represent themselves and their knowledge about their husbands business. To what benefit would it be to Elizabeth to disclaim knowledge; to what benefit is it for Isabella to claim familiarity
3. Focus on Isabella Clark's financial saavy and her insistence that she be treated as a knowledgeable representative of her husband. She is financially saavy. Think about Isabella Clark as a speculator trying to break through into the world of Anna Thornton and Abigail Adams. Then compare and contrast this with their reposnses to similar circumstances and conditions (meaning the wilderness city)
How are these women related together' why study these three
