| INTERRACIAL BODY ASKS GOV. TO PUNISH MOB i The Interracial Commission of Maryland has urged Governor Albert T. Ritchie to see to it that members of the mob which lynched and burned Matthew Williams be brought to justice, it was announced by officers of that body this week. The request that the Governor do everything in his power to have the leaders of the mob apprehended and tried was made in a letter dated December 16. \ Shocked and Horrified In the letter the Interracial Commission declares that it has been shocked and horrified by the lynching at Salisbury. It also points out that the apprehension of the leaders of the mob ought not be difficult, If, as reported, the officers of the law conversed with thsm and x..ged them to desist and let the law take its course. Condemns Crime The commission praised the Governor for the steps he had taken to I bring the lynchers to justice and declared that in doing so it was offer- : ing no excuse for the crime attributed to Matthew Williams. AH right thinking men of every race, the latter said, would condemn such a crime. |
