Mayor Wade Insley of Salisbury said: "I feel that the leaders should be proscu'ed. We have prided ourselves on being law-abiding people." MOB DETERMINED M. L. Hays, turnkey of Salisbury Jail: "The mob was determined and kept growing larger. There was no way to prevent the lynching." Col. Washington Bowie of the Maryland National Guard said: "I don't know what action will be taken. We have had no orders to go to the Eastern Shore." State's Attorney James A. McAllister of Dorchester county said he did not see that the lynching of Williams should have any effect on the trial of Orphan Jones.
