AID OF BALTIMORE detectives in the Eastern Shore investigation was offered by Commissioner Charles D. Gaither. Five major witnesses will be among the many persons asked to name leaders and members of the mob which Friday night lynched Matthew Williams, alias Matt Handy, in the Salisbury (Md.) courthouse square. This was revealed today as the investigation proceeded under direction of Attorney General William Preston Lane Jr., and State's Attorney Levin C. Bailey. Commissioner Charles D. Gaither, Baltimore police head, today said that Baltimore detectives would be offered to aid in the lynching investigation "if and when" they are needed either by state or Eastern Shore officials. No request for aid has yet been received by Gaither. Woman Among Five The major witnesses, to be summoned before a coroner's inquest in the death, include: Police Chief Michael Holland, who remonstrated with mob leaders when they came to take the Negro from his hospital cot.
