Trial. Officer Emerson King, Northern District, was tried upon and acquitted of charge, preferred by Captain Bernard J.Ward, of having been under the influence of liquor, while on active duty at 6.15 A.M., September 27,1902. In view, however, of the testimony of Police Sergeon John T.McCarthy, that, in $is judgment, Officer King's condition on the morning of September 27,1902, was not due to alcoholism, but to the fact that Officer King is suffering from Bright's disease, it was ordered,- That Officer King be continued on the sick-list, and that the Police Sergeons be directed to examine Officer King thoroughly, for the purpose of ascertaining if his condition is the result of any injury received by him while on active duty, or other wise. Gambling - 409 Lewis St. In the matter of complaint as to gambling at 409 Lewis St., referred to in the proceedings of October 10th., a report was received from the Marshal in which it is stated that premises 409 Lewis street,were raided by the officers of the Northeastern District on October 11th., and fifteen persons arrested therefrom. Report above mentioned filed as Exhibit No. 817. Assignment of Magistrate. The Secretary reported that on October 13th., after the adjournment of the Board notice was received from Justice James A.Fechtig, Jr., Central District, that he desired to be absent from his duties from 3 to 5 P.M., October 13th., and that he, the Secretary, had assigned Justice Neilson Poe, Jr., to act in the place of Justice Fechtig for the time referred to. The action of the Secretary was approved.
